The Sound of Movies

Obviously, movies are very important to me, as i've made it my lifes work to create them. This is a list of movies i like, and a description and/or a reason why i like them. Be aware that this list is never complete. Also note that i leave out the "The" at the beginning of the titles.

Abyss - Great suspenseful underwater
movie. I always liked the film, but not the ending. Now that they have the
original ending on the DVD, i like the movie even more. The ending explains the
whole meaning of the movie, and i dont know why they ever took it out. Cheap studio
bastards...

A.I. - Speilberg directs Kubrick's final story. This is a very interesting, thoughtful, disturbing film. Most people didnt like the the movie because most people dont like to be disturbed. Kubrick dont play that, and Speilberg did a spectacular job of bringing the film to life. Everyone should see this film once.
American Graffiti - One of my favorite
films ever. Great feel, and geat characterizations. Awesome film,
revolutionary for its time. Can never get enough of it.

Amistad - Great film, fascinateing
story, excellent acting.

An American Tail - This is a REALLY
great animated film. The underlying meanings in the story presented in a way that
makes it appealing to kids is an awesome thing.

Apocolypse Now - Gotta love this film.
Everyone should see it once. The ending drags out a bit much, but we all kind
of ignore that because the rest of the film was so amazeing.

Army of Darkness - This is my
BOOMSTICK! The most entertaining B rated horror/comedy i've ever seen. I
highly recommend it to people who like to laugh at bad movies. Plus you gotta just
love watching Bruce Campbell do his thing.

Attack of the Clones - Its not even out yet, and its my favorite movie! WOW! Itsnt it talented!? ;)
Austin Powers - Its Freedom baby,
yeah!
Back to the Future - The very
defenition of why i love Robert Zemeckis despite 1941. :) Sadly, its one of
those classics that hasnt been transferred to DVD yet. Doesnt that always seem to
happen to the best of them?
Batman - The FIRST Batman movie.
:P The Dark Knight as he should be. Complete with a well structured
plot, and character development. Not to mention the BatDance.

Blade Runner - Futuristic Film Noir,
very cool. Plus Harrision Ford. :)

Braveheart - Truely great film, but i
always have to leave before the ending. yeesh! ::shudders::

Cabinet of Dr. Calagari - WAY cool
silent German Expressionist film. Everyone should see it just to see what German
Expressionist films were all about.

Citizen Kane - They call it the best
film ever made, and i have to agree. Changed the art of filmmaking forever.

Clerks - Kevin Smith is the man, and
thats that. He's like the only director that correctly portrays my generation.
Adventure? Excitement? A Jedi craves not these things.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind -
You know its a good film when Richard Dreyfuss starts sculpting his mashed potatoes.
I mean, come on...

Contact - Love it love it love it!

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon - The
first martial arts film to really knock my socks off. Great action with chick
fights, and if thats not enough, its got an awesome, touching story to boot.

Cutthroat Island - I love pirates, and
this movie was just WAY cool. It was totally underrated. If you dont like this
movie then you're totally not a fun person.

Dances with Wolves - Yeah, i hate
Kevin Costner, but its a good film. The fact that i can bring myself to admit that
speaks for itself.

Dark Crystal - Gelfling! Muppets
on a fantasy trip. Very cool. One of the best Fantasy films ever.

Das Boot - Wolfgang Peterson's film
that broke him into Hollywood. Extremely good story with extremely well potrayed
chatacters. Story about a german u-boat crew in WWII. One of my favorite films
ever.

Days of Thunder - I like Tom Cruise, i
like NASCAR, and well... its an entertaining film.

Dogma - Kevin Smith, yay! I
liked it a lot, altho i think it could have done without the shit demon.

Empire Strikes Back - Noo! Thats
not true! Its Impossible!! ::throws herself down the nearest bottomless pit::

ET - Whats not to love about ET?
I cant wait for the re-release, when
it will finally take its throne back from Titanic. Ouch.

Evil Dead - I dont think Evil Dead 1
was meant to be funny, but it was, and in Evil Dead 2 they embraced that. Bad
movies, but in a really good way. Really.

Fellowship of the Ring - OH MY WORD. I'm in love. I knew this movie would kick ass, and it more than lived up to my already sky high expectations. If you've never read the books and dont know what to expect going into the movie, i recommend you click here.

original sci-fi films in recent years. I thought it was totally awesome. Luc
Besson film.

childhood idea of coolest thing that could happen to a kid. I also think this film
is what first made me fall in love with pirates. ARRR!!

Gremlins - Its all about the blender
and the microwave baby.

Hamlet - Mel Gibson version. The
best shakespeare adaptaion to film IMO.

Harry Potter and the Sorcers Stone - I
saw this movie knowing it had potential, but not really knowing what to expect. what
i have to say is... WOW! OH MY WORD! HOLY JUNK! THATS A DAMN GOOD
MOVIE! Click here to see more of my thoughts on Harry
Potter.
Haunting - Not really a great film,
(kind of silly at times) but it had great sound design, and it was the first film to be
mixed for THX-EX theatres.

Hidden Fortress - Kurosawa film,
complete with Mifune. Pretty funny, and its also one of the films Star Wars was
gleaned from.

Highlander - There can be only one!
I mean come on, hottie immortal guys sword fighting to Queen music. Who can
ask for more?

Indepence Day - Okay, yeah, i like
this movie. Mainly i like the sequence that shows the countries of the world
uniting. ID4 was cool, but if you know about the coolness factor of stories like
Robotech, you'd know that there's a lot more fun stuff you can do with the general idea
for ID4. Still, its an entertaining movie.

Interview with the Vampire -
Amazeingly good film. I love it to death.

Jaws - Very good film in every aspect.
See it on the new DvD, its rad.

Jurassic Park - Movie not as cool as
the book, but still a very cool film, with awesome sound.

disney film as a kid. Great story and characterizations.

and character. I like it because i can see a lot of myself in Lawrences character.

movie, cant really remember why. Must have something to with Brad Pitt and the kid
from ET all grown up.

Mallrats - Kevin Smith again.
He's the man, what can i say?

Mars Attacks - Way underrated.
Totally funny comedy, plus Natalie Portman.

Matrix - Good film on every level.
Excellent sound deisgn.

Metropolis - This is a silent film,
and in my opinion, one of the best. An awesome science fiction film directed by
Fritz Lang done in German Expressionistic style. VERY cool. I recommend
everyone see it at least once.

Moulin Rogue - Aye Carumba! This
was like THE coolest movie! I was blown away by EVEYRHTING in the movie, from the
screenplay, to the direction, the costumes, the set design, and espicially the
performances! This is Movie Heaven! I never thought it possible for me to love
a movie this much that has nothing to do with Star Wars. Well, besides my Ewan.
:)

watch. i like it.

Muppet Movie - Its not easy being

NeverEnding Story - One of the most
memorable fantasy films ever made. Very important meaning.

Wall as it is, and the film to go with it is very creative, and has great cinematography.
I love the colors.

Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.

mean, Jabba had bad hygene, why didnt they all just relax back on Tatooine, at the Star
Wars....Star Wars Cantina?

Robin Hood: Prince of Theives -
Another movie i like despite Kevin Costner. Fun to watch. One of the few films
i've seen that makes the medieval time period seem somewhat realistic to me.

Rob Roy - Great sword fights and a
really great villain. The first movie i remember seeing in the theatre when the
audience cheered when the hero killed the villain.

Saving Private Ryan - Everything about
this film is good. Espicially the sound.

Seven - Does anyone not like this
film? Modern film noir, very cool.

Brains? mmm.... Snake Suprise? Suprise!

personal experience with.

Waynes World - Waynes World, Waynes
World, party time, excellent! Mike Meyers, Dana Carvey, and Queen. Need i say more?

Where the Heart is - I just thought
this film was incredible. It really stuck in my mind. A great story of the
human condition. Starring Natalie Portman, of course. :)

Willow - My favorite fantasy film.
Val Kilmer and Warwick Davis are just rad. Ron Howard is the Man.

Wizard of Oz - TOTALLY symbolic, weird
film. All kinds of hidden meanings and mythological stuff. very cool.
Trippier than the Matrix back in its day, i'm sure.

X-Files - Kiss! Kiss!!
DOH! Damn bee!!!

X-Men - Ooh, that Wolverine, what a
hottie! :) Cant wait for part 2.
