Corinne Griffith

Known as "The Orchid Lady", Corinne Griffith was considered by many to have been the lovliest screen actress of the silent era. Little is ever written or mentioned about Corinne Griffith today, but in truth she was a major star, who enjoyed a lengthy career spanning from 1916 to 1932. Although often more cited for her rare beauty than her talent, Corinne was a capable actress who starred in everything from sophisticated comedies to society dramas. Unfortunately many of Griffith's films are lost, and the remaining ones are rarely seen. One of her most interesting Black Oxen(1924) is an unusual mix of science fiction, society drama, and Jazz Age Flapper story. Also, her most famous film today, the delightful The Garden Of Eden(1928) was recently given a beautiful first class DVD release. Her beautiful production The Divine Lady(1929) has aired occassionally on TCM, and her exquisite, sensitive performance garnered her an Academy Award nomination. After a few disappointing talkies, Corinne retired from the screen an extremely wealthy woman. In her later years she kept busy, successfully writing books, and entering the world of poltics.

This is definitely a work in progress. I'll add more as I learn more information about Corinne and hopefully see more films. I may eventually do a complete website on Corinne.
