"Oklahoma" Opens End of July at Grand
"Oklahoma" which first opened on Broadway in 1943, tells the story of cowboy
Curly and his lover Laurey. The story is set in Indian Territory in 1907, just before
Oklahoma became a state. Conflict is provided by the clash between farming and
ranching interests and the unrequited love of surly farmhand Jud for Laurey.
Songs from the show include "Oh, What a Beautiful Morning," "The Surrey with the Fringe on Top,"
"Kansas City" and the title tune among others.
Show times for the Summer Student Musical's production at July 29 through Aug 1, 2004, in the evenings.
Production is under the direction of J.R. Thompson and musical direction of Mike Shima. Technical
director is Laura Thompson with Dean Rees as accompanist.

Grand Theater Restoration Continuing With Repairs
Mike Garza, left, of BAV Construction was in Rocky Ford recently to make repairs on
the Grand Theater's restoration efforts. Cracking in tile on the south side of the
building's face was spotted, as well as paint peeling on the south side of the
marquee. RF Arts Commission chairman Bob Nelson stated damage to the outside's neon
lighting as reported recently, which may warrant a person to patrol the outside of the
theater on Friday nights, informally known as Kid's Night.
