2003 Wooden Robbies Introduction

2003 Wooden Robbies

Introduction

I welcome you all to the 2003 Wooden Robbie's here at Flawless Judgment! Many awards will be given out this year. Awards will go to movies that qualify in the "Best" category, movies that qualify in the "Worst" category and other miscellanious awards. Many films were reviewed in 2003. Flawless Judgment got off to a great start in 2003 and it will continue to progress through 2004 and so on. As months continue to pass by, Flawless Judgment will continue to grow. I'm glad you all are here for these awards. And without further due, lets recap the year of 2003.

Recap Of 2003

So lets recap the year 2003. Was it a good year for movies? I thought 2003 delivered some very orginal and entertaining movies, especially in the month of December. The year 2003 also gave us great popcorn flicks in the summer. However, besides the summer and December, the rest of 2003 did bring us some terrible films. We got so many comedies this year and a good half of them were just awful. To add to that, in the first half of the year, the horror genre was doing as terrible as it may ever do in any year. It quickly picked up though around June with some interesting horror films.

Recap Directors

We saw the likes of many films, from many famous directors in 2003. Six years with no word from Director Quentin Tarantino and then in October he delivers a classic and original film with plenty of great dialogue and graphic battles. He had been working on this film for two years and the script was somewhat 200 pages, so I knew that Tarantino wasn't going to give us some crappy film here, this was the real deal and he nailed it in 2003. While I wasn't a fan of splitting Kill Bill in two parts, I can understand why he would want to do that. It will draw the box office more, a lot of editions for the dvds and Volume 1 will give everyone that to be continued feeling and will make them want more and pay an extra 8 dollars to see volume 2 in April. So Tarantino teased us with Volume 1 and quite frankly it was so damn good that I don't know how Volume 2 can be better.

Two films came out from Ridley Scott in 2003. Well actually just one entirely new film which was Matchstick Men and then the Director's Cut of the classic film "Alien" Either way Ridley didn't dissapoint and Matchstick Men was something pretty original and what a performance Nicholas Cage gave in Matchstick Men. For those who thought he gave a good performance in Adaptation, you have to see his performance in Matchstick Men. Also, what better way to watch one of the scariest films of all time in the theatre. I had the pleasure of experiencing that and it is simply amazing the feeling you get in the theatre with that film. All in all good year for Ridley Scott and Matchstick Men is definetely a great movie to add to his resume.

The Coen Brothers have some amazing films lined up that they have directed. Theres Blood Simple, Big Lebowski, Miller's Crossing, Fargo and those are only some of their classic films. Well this year they released the film Intolerable Cruelty. A funny yet to the point film that has some very interesting moments and a very good screenplay at that. I throughly enjoyed this movie, although it wouldn't rank in with the best of the best from the Coen Brothers, but it still is a very good film that they should be proud to add. So I definetely applaud the Coen Brothers and will be the first to go see their next film which will be released in March starring Tom Hanks and titled The Ladykillers.

Three years and three wonderful fantasy adventure films. The Lord Of The Rings trilogy are truly epic films and Peter Jackson can now be called a good Director. A good Director of adapting films from novels, but the day will come when he will give us something original and we can see if he truly has it in him. As for originality, his next film will be a remake of King Kong, so no originality there, but I'll see how it goes. I tip my hat off to Peter Jackson for the Lord Of The Rings trilogy though because each installment just got better and better.

What a year it was folks, but you know what I'm going to stop talking now so we can get on with the nominations... Here we go.

Best Action/Adventure/Sci-Fi Film...
