2003 Wooden Robbie Nominees

Best Horror/Thriller Film

What truly defines a good horror film? For one things, orginality is a strong point in a horror movie. Lately, a lot of horror films for like a rehash of one just a few years ago. When the director sets all the regular horrors aside and takes his own route than you know you have a good horror movie. This year was definetely not the strongest for horror films, but the few that were good, were damn good, I'll tell you that. I'm a fan of horror films and now here are the nominees for Best Horror/Thriller Film:

28 Days Later
Released in June, this film came out of no where. It filled the horror genre and it sure delivered plenty of scares and originality. The score is damn good, the performances are on the money and the scares are unexpected, not to mention truly original.

Gothika

The strongest point from this film is the mood. It certainly makes you feel like you yourself are going insane. It has the terrifying mood that you are going insane and need to be placed in an insane sylum yourself. The thing about Gothika is its a good horror/thriller flick, but you leave empty handed.

Identity

Weird and disturbing is what Identity is. A horror film that certainly had you thinking from the beginning. It plays tricks with you, makes you think you are right on one thing, but then throws you off guard. Sometimes when this happens in a horror film, it can be a bad turn out, but Identity held its steam and it is somewhat a decent horror film.

Texas Chainsaw Masscre

Okay, I have seen the original and I have obviously witnessed this remake. The original is excellent and features very scary instances. What makes this remake a good remake is the fact that in certain scenes it feels like the original, but it also plays in a whole new ball game. Texas Chainsaw Masscre creates very interesting situations and it reveals many things the original never did. This film even featured a few parts of the somewhat true incident that occured some fifty years ago.

Phone Booth

This film came as a shock to me because I wasn't expecting much. Not only did it feel like a wild ride, but we get some satisfying split screens when Farell is speaking on the phone and did I mention he gives one hell of a performance. Colin certainly was not miscasted and this is film to gobble up. The suspense is definetely clear to all.

And The Winner Is...
