"Wait! Wait for me! No don't go!"
"Jonathon hurry up!" Evy yelled.
Jonathon, Evy and Rick all ran frantically around the house. This is all last minute. Evy and Rick already had they're feet out the door when Jonathon knew he was the last one ready.
"We're gonna be laaaate," Rick said annoyingly.
"We can't be late for our own son's wedding. Jonathon will you hurry it up?"
"I'm ready."
"Let's go already!" Rick was getting very impatient.
They arrived at the church to find it empty. "Well this looks like a very popular wedding." Rick said sarcastically.
"Oh no! where is everyone?"
"Hunny don't jump to conclusions. I'm sure there's a very logical explanation."
"Mom! Dad!" A voice yelled from the church door.
"Alex! Where is everyone?" Evy yelled to her son, running to him.
"I left the room for one second. I came back into the sancuary, and everybody disapeered. They were all gone."
"Yes well, They must have taken their camels horses and cars with them." Jonathon replied.
"All of you stay here. I'll walk in."
"Dad, there's nothing in there."
"Well, why don't I just make sure of that." Rick pulled out his gun from is left sock.
"Riick, why would you bring that thing inside a church?"
"For reason's such as this."
They spoke to eachother, with no passion in their voice. After 22 years of marriage, their fire they once had, had died out. They knew they were meant to be together, but their love wasn't as strong as it was in the past.
"Dad, no one is in there. Believe me. I've been sitting in there for the past 10 minutes."
"Maybe he's right O'Conell. Maybe you should just forget about it." Jonathon put in his input.
"Well I still want to make sure."
"I'm goin in." With that, he walked through the door slamming it behind. He found himself staring inside an empty church. Alex was right, nobody seemed to be here at all. Well not wanting to look like a fool, and walk back outside. He atleast wanted to wait ten more mintues until the sin went down. Then somebody would have to come in after him, because Jonathon would start acting like a baby. He walked all around, going through each aisle. He sat down in one of the chairs. He started thinking about Evy. Why didn't they love eachother anymore? What had happenned? It seemed like this all came at once, but it didn't. Gradually overtime they grew steadily apart.
"Well I think its ten minutes now. I'll walk outside, say I scared a guy off, and figure out what to do next when we get home."
He got up from his chair. He started walking toward the door. Suddenly a bright light showed up in front of his eyes and he was blinded. What happenned next, he never really did figure out.
"Rick!" He was starting to gain back his sight. "Rick wake up!" He looked up to see Evy's face. Everything was a blur. She plopped down right next to him on the bed. "Rick, sleepy head wake up. Today's a big day!" Rick was still half asleep.
"Wow. I just had the strangest dream."
"Rick, hunny if you don't get up now, there may never be a wedding."
"I know, I'll get up. We wouldn't want to keep our son waiting." His eyes finally adjusted. He looked up to see the back of Evy's head. She was looking at a vase. She turned around to take a look at him. A quizzical look came over her face. She was half laughing as well. She walked over to the bed. Her hand found its way to Rick's head, brushing his hair back. She moved her hand down to his chin and pulled his face closer to hers.
"Rushing a bit are we?" Rick didn't understand the question, but looked into her eyes. My how young they looked. They exchanged a thoughtful kiss. He was surprised at this reaction. What had come over Evy. Had she been drinking the night before? She turned around and ran into the next room.
"Hunny, where are you going?"
"It's bad luck to see the bride on our wedding day!"
"Okaaay, so what does this have to do with you running out?"
"Rick if you want me to stay in there with you, just say so. I think we have some time to kill before we should be getting ready for our wedding."
Rick sat straight up in the bed. "OUR wedding?!?" She walked back in, and sat next to him. She gave him a long passionate kiss. "You haven't kissed me like that in twenty years."
"It seems like twenty years doesn't it? Yes. We're getting married today. You don't have cold feet do you?"
"Woh! I'm not supposed to be here. It's 1943! We have son. He's getting married today!"
"Rick? What are you talking about. I think that dream of yours has gone to your head." Rick started thinking. Maybe these past 20 years has been a dream. Was he going crazy? No. he couldn't be. Could he? "Rick are you going to get ready or what? We don't want to be late for our own wedding."
"No.. we don't"
He got up, openned the drawer or his bureau, pulled out his brand new pair of black pants. He remembered these. And the rest of the tux was hanging in the closet. Evy had insisted he wear one. She said he looked so adorable, which had convinced him. Or did he really remember? Was all this one big memory? How could he be here? What was going on. How did he get here. Was he ever gone? He started doubting himself when he reached in the pocket of his slacks, and found a picture of Alex when he was eight years old. His eyes got extremely wide when he remembered something else. "EVY!"
She walked into the room calmly. "Rick what is i- mm. mmm" A hand covered her mouth.
"O Connel, if you ever want to see your girlfriend again, I suggest you pay a certain ransom."
"Bennie, you little-"
"Ah ah ah." He pulled out a knife and stuck it to her throat. Almost killing her right then and there with his clumsiness. "Aren't you going to ask why I'm still alive?
"No." He knew. Bennie never did die in Hamunaptra. He was still under Imhotep's protection, even when Imhotep was dead. Nothing could hurt him. Bennie didn't know how this was possible, but it did happen. He found his way out of the sand through and openning in the ceiling which took a long time to build a ladder for. He came up out of the sand. He was hungry filthy, and weaker than usual. Once he found a town, and regained his strength, and learned all he needed to learn about fighting, he came back to take revenge on Rick.
"Don't you even want to know what I'm asking for ransom?" Rick's eyes started squinting with furiousness when he looked at Bennie. Bennie was a little frightenned, but still held his ground. He looked over at Evy. She was terrified. She motionned to him that there was somebody else behing Bennie. Rick already knew that. He wasn't surpised.
"You want all the Hamunaptra gold."
"Well. yes my friend."
"Here take these two bags." They were still in they're original form hardly openned from Hamunaptra 6 months ago. Four months ago, Evy was hired by the Benbridge scholors with a healthy first paycheck. There was no need to open the gold quite yet.
Bennie stood stupified. He let go of Evy ran grabbed the two bags, and struggled with them walking out the door.
"Bennie!"
"Yes"
"I'm a nice guy, so next time I see your ass anywhere near, you really will get yours."
"Ha! Zat's what they always say"
Rick wanted to lunge forward at him, but he knew there were half a dozen people waiting for his attack. Last time Evy was seriously injured. He couldn't bear to witness her go through with that again. Last time, their wedding was put off for three and a half months. Again, he couldn't watch her suffer that misery. He couldn't share it again.
"Evelyn!" He ran over to her. "Are you okay?"
"That was fun wasn't it?" She reached up and gave him a kiss followed but a hug. "We have a wedding to get ready for."
"Evy there is something I have to tell you." He knew that there was a fat chance of being believed, but it was a long shot. He had married the world's smartest woman alive.
"What is it?" She grew really worried..
"Evelyn, do you believe in time travel?"
"No that nonsense. Fairy Tale Hokum."
"Isn't that what you said about curses and Mummies?"
"Well you do have a point. But what does time travel have to do with anything?"
"It's 1943."
"Wha?"
"I'm supposed to be in 1943 right now."
"Rick if you don't want to get married, just say so. I thought you loved me."
"Evy, I do love you. I love you so much." He hadn't said those words in a long time. They seemed new and unfamiliar.
"I love you too. I always will." if only she knew, he thought.
They exchanged kisses again. The memories in Rick's head were swarming around. He missed this side of Evy. I had faded away. Along time ago.
"Please believe me." He looked deep into her eyes. He could see ever glitter and sparkle. Every concern and worry. Every sign of love and affection. They too have also disapeered.
"So you are telling me that we are both almost 50 years old?" He knodded smiling. "And we're still alive?" He also nodded. "Is what you said about a son true?" He nodded again. "Our love has lasted twenty years. It's so romantic!" This time he didn't nod. He stared blankly at her. She knew that look. She sighed. "Well, atleast we will have our health and a son."
"Evy-"
"No. Its not healthy to know our future. According to me, mine is unwritten. I can make it whatever I want." Rick wanted to tell her everything. Not just the bad things. But the good. All their children. Every single smile. Every single adventure, but he knew better to argue with her. "We must find a way to get you home. Where were you last?"
"Inside the London Church."
"That is where we're gonna get married! How can we pull this off?"
"Let's go right now. I have to get home. I have to sa-"
"Shh. don't tell me anything!"
"Okay"
They arived at the church. When they walked inside, nobody was there. "Well isn't this a deja vu?" Rick said aloud.
"Huh?"
"Nothing."
"Okay. Now where were you when you arrived here?"
He walked over to the spot. "Right here. Now what to we do?"
"Just wait for it I guess." she secretly knew the secrets of time travel. She had been coming up with her theories long ago when she had an imagination and an open mind. She lost that open mind. It reappeared again in Hamunaptra. "Rick.."
"Yeh."
"I know you are about 20 years older than me right now, but I think I know my future self pretty much. No matter what happenns to us in the future, I promise I will never stop loving you." She reached over and kissed him one last time. Rick felt his heart flutter again. The new old feeling.
"I will too Evy. I love you so much."
"Remember my promise?"
"Always!"
Just then the light hit him hard. Here we go again, he thought.
"Rick! Rick!" He looked up from lying on the ground. "Rick get up now! Jonathon's becoming rather ancy. I come in here to get you, and I find you sleeping on the floor?!?"
Rick got up quickly. She ran up to him. There were standing in the same spot they were 20 years ago, or accoording to Rick, 5 minutes ago. Rick reached out and took Evy in his embrace. He whispered in her ear, I will always remember your promise. He turned to look at her. Her eyes were wide and bright. She thought that day never happenned. She thought it was some strange day dream, or she thought she was going crazy, but she never did forget. "I'm sorry." She said.
"For what?"
"For seeming like I broke my promise."
"Shh. It's okay."
"I always have loved you. I thought you were bored with me."
"I could never become bored with you, Evy."
Kissed eachother again, and walked hand-in-hand out the door.
"By the way Rick, the wedding is tomorrow. Our son was playing a little trick on us."
