'RINGS' STAR WOOD STILL A MAMA'S BOY

Good news "Rings" fans: Frodo is still free. Forget rumors that Elijah Wood, star of "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" is co-hobbitating with "Bourne Identity" beauty Franka Potente. "Rumors, rumors!" Wood tells this column. "In fact, for a while there was a rumor that I was married to Franka. It was so funny because my Mom called me on my cell phone and said, 'Are you married?' I said, 'You would know!' "But Wood admits, "You see, I still live with my Mom, which I know is pathetic, but it's great because she does my laundry.
"More "Rings" rumblings: What about the film's Oscar chances this year?
Director Peter Jackson says, "I don't think it will hurt us this year to be the second part of a trilogy, so I'm hopeful," he says. Wood says that he had to be Jackson's guest at last year's ceremony because the "Rings" cast wasn't given enough tickets to attend. "I loved going to the Oscars," he admits. "It was the first time I had a glass of champagne in a car. Yes, when the film lost I was disappointed. I was hoping we'd see 'Lord of the Rings' in that list of Oscar-winning movies 20 years from now."
