She is an elf, and lives in Lothlorien. Galadriel means Lady of Light. She is known for her power and wisdom. She is married to Celeborn.
She also is a ring-bearer, of the ring Nenya.
Her parents were Finarfin, and Earwen.
She also in the first age knew Melian who was one of the Valar and Melian taught her many things, and this made Galdriel wiser.
Galadriel could have become evil if she had the one ring-when Frodo enters Lothlorien, she is scared because she knows that she will be tempted by the ring, that is why she didn't take the ring from Frodo- after she saw what she might turn into.
Because she joined in with the rebellion against the Valar in the first age (because she wanted to rule her own realm) the Valar would not let her go to The Grey Havens.
But she was finally allowed to go to the Grey Havens when she resisted the service of Sauron and Morgoth and she also didn't that the ring from Frodo when he offered it to her- this is why she says in the film:
" I pass the test! I will diminish, and go into the West, and remain Galadriel."
What she means is that she has resisted evil and can now go to The Grey Havens.
