Chapter One
Uruviel the Elven maid of Lorien had not seen Legolas for some time now. He had gone away for the battle of Helm’s deep with an alliance of other Elves venturing from Mirkwood to Rivendell. There were few Elves left and the rest of them in Middle-Earth were in hiding and lost from all memory.
The Elves from Lothlorien were preparing to leave the golden woods and at last leave behind Middle-earth to a place called The Grey Havens which would only be a myth in the years to come. Uruviel had told Galadriel how she would remain in Lothlorien until Figwit returned for her.
“Uruviel,” Galadriel had said softly may times, “Who knows if they will return, I know how you are feeling but it would not be wise to stay alone.”
“I understand that you are trying to help me, but surely you’ll wait for Celeborn?” Uruviel said sadly. “My decision i do not speak openly, as you may take it as advice, but i can not counsel you into your choice. You alone have to decide.” Galadriel walked off into her garden.
“Could you not let me look into the mirror?” Uruviel bounded after her, “Then i may know his fate!” “Uruviel! The Mirror may show you things you do not wish to see, i cannot allow it.” Galadriel said loudly and then rested her arm on Uruviel’s shoulder who was sitting on a white shiny smooth bench, “I understand your pain i see your mind, but do not worry, go now and rest.” Galadriel smiled.
Uruviel nodded and got up from the bench and walked up the steps leading out from Galadriel’s garden.
Galadriel moved over towards the basin of water and filled the ewer with the crystal clear water, and went over to her mirror and filled it to the brim. Galadriel waited as the curtain of darkness vanished and she saw the battle at Helm’s deep there was much fire and screaming and she searched for Legolas amongst all the fighting.
Chapter two
Uruviel woke up and looked about her, Haldir was awake by her and climbing down from the tree. Uruviel was about to speak when Haldir put his finger to his lips.
“Yrch!” he hissed, Uruviel and Haldir looked down the tree there was about 20 men strong of Orcs sniffing about. Haldir withdrew an arrow from his back and aimed his bow at the fiercer looking Orc. It hit the Orc right through the head and it dropped to the ground instantly dead. The other Orcs all growled and looked upwards towards the tree. Uruviel and Haldir moved back swiftly and hid the best they could. Nimloth a skilled Elven archer along with a few other Elves were in trees nearby them and were shooting the Orcs, Haldir joined in after realising they were safe. After all the Orcs were deceased the Elves jumped down from their trees and searched the Orcs and retrieved their arrows.
“How did they get in here? What were they doing?” Haldir questioned Elwe one of the most skilled bowmen of Lothlorien.
“I do not know, perhaps they were looking for something?” Elwe whispered.
“They came through quickly and it looks like they had a captive with them but i think they lost them, and came looking for them here.” Tiniwiel answered, another skilled Elven ranger, “Me and Elwe will check the borders of Lothlorien incase of any strays.” Tiniwiel and Elwe ran off.
Nimloth studied the earth around a purple flowered bush, “These footprints are alien to me, Haldir take a look.” Haldir bent over to the disturbed ground, “These look like Hobbit feet! But there is two sets, surely Sam and Frodo weren’t taken captive?” Haldir frowned. Tiniwiel and Elwe cam running back and by them was Merry and Pippin.
“Hello!” Pippin said joyfully, “I’m glad they found us, we were lost.”
“Come!” Haldir laughed, “Galadriel will be happy to see you.” The Elves walked with the Hobbits and Merry and Pippin explained that they were travelling back to Hobbition and had bumped into some stray Orcs and they captured them, but they managed to escape and then got lost. When they came to Galadriel she was pleased to see them and made sure that they had much rest and care from her maids.
Merry and Pippin were there for some time not sure what they should do with themselves. Galadriel had told them many times how they wouldn’t be in lorien for much longer and how they would have to decide, Merry and Pippin didn’t quite understand what she meant by this.
Meanwhile Haldir and Nimloth were talking and were discussing about Uruviel. They were concerned for her as she had become very isolated and wasn’t talking much. She was also disappeared for sometimes a whole day. Nimloth and Lenwe had tried following her, but Uruviel had made sure no one would follow her and they lost her.
Uruviel however was making a journey towards Mirkwood at this present time and wanted to find out about Legolas. She knew that Mirkwood had become dangerous what with the large spider population in a rise, but she did not care. Uruviel stepped inside the dark wood and squinted her eyes until they adjusted to the darkness of the wood. It was different to how she imagined it to look it was dark but also warm at the same time, there was silence which felt like it went around for miles. She felt like she had been walking for hours when she came to a extra large tree then all the others, she decided that by climbing up it she may see more of the land and then she thought she might see the Elves of Mirkwood's palace. She could not see it anywhere and feared that she would not find it. She went to jump down from the tree when she realised that there was a large spider beneath the tree. It had 8 huge black eyes and it had long furry legs. Uruviel leaned against the tree and slowly reached for a dagger in her, when she noticed two Elves appearing from the corner of her eye, they shot the spider and it screamed and then dropped to the ground. “Uruviel!” Elwe whispered, “What are you trying to do?”
“I’m looking for the Mirkwood Elves, to find out about Legolas.” Uruviel explained as she climbed down the tree, Tiniwiel who was standing by Elwe shook her head.
“The Elves of Mirkwood you cannot find easily, they want to remain hidden.” Tiniwiel said.
“I came here to find Legolas and i’m not going until i find that he is okay.” Uruviel demanded and began to walk off.
“He is not here!” Elwe shouted to her, and then looked away. Uruviel turned to look at them.
“What are you talking about?” Uruviel questioned him.
“He has gone away.” Tiniwiel said, “Galadriel told us not to tell you but seeing as you are hear you would soon find out.”
“Gone where?”, Uruviel asked.
“He has gone travelling with that Dwarf, called Gimli. He will probably come back soon.” Tiniwiel explained.
“Come lets go home it is not safe here.” Elwe said as Uruviel began walking slowly in front of them. “I don’t know why she is so upset about Legolas anyway, there are lots of our people missing apart from Legolas doesn’t she care about them?” Tiniwiel whispered angrily.
“Atleast some of us are okay, the others may have left the shores and decided they would not come back to Lothlorien.” Elwe suggested.
“I guess.” She agreed, “Uruviel will be upset when she hears that Legolas is planning to leave without her, something tells me he didn’t know that she liked him.”
“i agree with you there, but we best not tell her know, she seems a mess.” Elwe whispered.
“Perhaps it would be better if she went to the grey havens now?” Elwe nodded in agreement.
Chapter Three
The three Elves returned to lothlorien that afternoon, and Uruviel went to her bed and wasa there for along time. Elwe and Tiniwiel told Haldir and Nimloth about Uruviel and how they weren’t sure if she should stay for much longer.
“Galadriel will be leaving soon, she should leave with her, and any other Elves which are planning to leave soon.” Haldir explained, “I however am staying.” The other three all agreed with him, they did not feel a rush to leave now that Middle-Earth was a safer place.
“There is so much i have not seen which i want to see.” Nimloth explained.
