On January 23, 1915, Rear-Admiral Hipper had sailed from Jade with the 1st and 2nd Scouting Groups of three battle cruisers, the large armoured cruiser known as Blücher, and four light cruisers to scout out the Dogger Bank region of the North Sea and attack any British light forces found in the region. Their plan had backfired when order to Hipper from Admiral von Ingenohl ,who was head of Germany's navy, was intercepted and later decoded by the British Admiralty's deciphering serving Room 40. Vice-Admiral Beatty with his Rosyth based battle cruiser force and Commodore Tyrwhitt's Harwich Force of light cruisers and destroyers were ordered to meet at Dogger Bank at 7 A.M. the next day.

The next day, Hipper had saw smoke coming from the north-north-west and thought it came from a battleship and started to head back home going south-west. The British tried to stop them and then it broke out into a battle. It had took them a long time to destroy the Blücher.

In conclusion, the British had won with the enemy Blücher destroyed, three hits on Seydlitz and three on Derfflinger. They also suffered with 954 killed, 80 wounded and 189 captured. The British had suffered with 15 killed and 32 wounded. As well the damage of Tiger, Lion and the destroyer Meteor.
