To get a clearer idea of where we are in London, start with Multimap at: http://www.multimap.com/    Enter our postcode:  SE13 7AP

All major high street shops, including Sainsbury supermarket, library, swimming pool, fruit and vegetable market, and post office are within easy walking distance in Lewisham town centre.  At the north end of Algernon Road, on Loampit Vale we have a Tesco twenty-four hour mini supermarket. At the south end is Ladywell Village. This has two cafes,  a good wine bar, sub post office, newsagent, dry cleaners, etc.

Hilly Fields
We are close to two good parks, Hilly Fields and Ladywell Fields, both are five  minutes walk.  There are kids play areas, tennis courts, all-weather athletics track, and gym.

Greenwich is on our doorstep. In addition to the magnificent park, Cutty Sark tea clipper, markets, Maritime Museum, Royal Naval College, and Observatory, there are plenty of restaurants, pubs, and cafes. Blackheath Village is a short bus journey to the east. Again, there are plenty of pubs and restaurants. You can also walk on to the heath and then to Greenwich Park. The heath has all kinds of activities including kite flying, and visiting circuses and fairs throughout the year.

There are live theatres in Lewisham and Greenwich. Some are small venues above pubs but Greenwich Theatre and the Broadway Theatre in Catford are substantial.

There are cinemas in Surrey Quays, Greenwich town centre, Greenwich Peninsula, and Canary Warf in Docklands.

Getting around London

We live close to train, bus, and Dockland Light Railway (DLR) stations that can get you rapidly around London and our locality. Click on the map on the left. The dotted  lines are routes to our local stations. We are in the red circle.

Lewisham train station, the Dockland Light Railway, and Lewisham bus station are north and east of us. The journey takes approx. seven minutes. We tend to use Lewisham Station because, as you can see, a large number of lines converge and there are trains every few minutes.  Trains to central London from Lewisham take 20 minutes, or less, to Charing Cross station in the heart of the West End. Get off earlier, at London Bridge or Waterloo, for the Southbank.

Ladywell Station is five minutes walk southward. Quicker to get to, but has fewer trains. It is on the same line as Lewisham into central London.

The DLR is excellent for Greenwich -- only fifteen minutes away -- and an alternative route to central London.

There are three ways of getting to central London: train, DLR and, my favourite, by boat. There is a regular service along the Thames between Greenwich pier and Westminster pier. Or, from Greenwich, head down river to the Thames Barrier.
