Swimfan DVD Review

Swimfan, which is essentially a teen update of Fatal Attraction, stars Jesse Bradford and Erika Christensen. Bradford plays Ben Cronin, a school student, who's life is going great until he meets Madison Bell, the new girl in school, played by Christensen. After nearly running her over with his truck he offers her a ride home but she forgets a book in his truck and he returns it to her. The two go out to eat and end up having sex in the school pool. He tells her that what they did was wrong because he has a girlfriend but she refuses to be ignored and will stop at nothing to get what she wants.

Available from 20th Century Fox Swimfan features both the fullscreen and anamorphic widescreen(2.35:1) versions of the film on a two sided-disc. As for the audio it comes in 5.1 Dolby Surround(english) and in 2.0 Dolby Surround(french, spanish). Subtitles have also been included in english and spanish.

The extras include an audio commentary track by director John Polson, stars Jesse Bradford and Erika Christensen, 10 deleted/extended scenes, The Girlfriend From Hell featurette and a teaser trailer for 28 Days Later.

The audio commentary by director John Polson and stars Jesse Bradford and Erika Christensen is like most other commentary tracks. The three discuss the making of the film, share anecdotes, praise each other and the rest of the cast and crew and geniunely seem like they had a great time making the film and recording this commentary. It is thoroughly enjoyable throughout the whole film.

The Girlfriend From Hell featurette(10:20) is nothing more than a publicity piece in which the cast and some of the crew talk about the characters and what happens in the film. The making of the film is never discussed as this was most likely included as part of the film's electronic press kit.

The only other extras on this disc are 10 deleted/extended scenes which run for about 12 minutes total and a teaser trailer for 28 Days Later.

My only problem with this release is that the extras were spread over the two sides of the disc. There was really no need to do this since there's so few extras included. Besides that however the disc looks great.
