Jason Goes To Hell DVD Review

Following their extras filled DVD of Jason X New Line has decided to release Jason Goes To Hell on DVD as well. While this release carries less extras on it than Jason X it is still better than any of the other discs in the series released by Paramount.

The film is presented in a widescreen format and is enhanced for 16X9 televisions. As for the sound the film comes with an english 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround audio track, an english 5.1 DTS audio track and a french 2 channel Dolby Stereo audio track. English subtitles are also included.

The special features included are an audio commentary track by director Adam Marcus and screenwriter Dean Lorey, nine alternate scenes shot for the network tv version, Jump To A Death, the theatrical trailer and the best feature has got to be the addition of the director's cut which restores an extra three minutes of gore.

The audio commentary track, which can only be heard on the director's cut, is really enjoyable. On it the guys reveal the original idea for the film, talk about their problems with the MPAA and the scenes they restored for the director's cut, make fun of the film and even nitpick it among other things.

The nine alternate scenes shot for the network tv version total about twelve and half minutes. Seeing as they included these scenes it would of been nice if they would of also included deleted scenes since not all they cut was included in the director's cut.

The Jump To A Death feature is kinda like the Jump To A Nightmare feature on the A Nightmare On Elm Street DVD's. By selecting this feature you can view any death scene from the film or if you want you can see them all by selecting Play All. Since the director's cut is included all the death scenes are from the director's cut.

When I originally saw this film in theaters back in August of 1993 I was quite dissappointed because I was expecting to see Jason throughout the whole movie not in only two scenes. Since then however I've seen it at least four or five times and I now consider it one of the best in the series. It's not your standard Jason flick and it actually has somewhat of a plot which some fans might not like but it's definitely worth checking out, if not only for the director's cut.
