Never having seen the television show before I didn't know quite what to expect from Jackass:The Movie. I didn't expect this. Based on a popular television show from MTV a group of idiots perform stupid and dangerous stunts and get hurt in the process. Not much of a plot but then again it's not much of a movie. What it is however is series of stunts that weren't able to be shown on television edited together to make an 84-minute movie.
Available from Paramount in their Widescreen Collection and also in their newer Fullscreen Collection Jackass:The Movie carries a wealth of extras including two audio commentary tracks, a making of, nearly a half hour's worth of deleted scenes, promo spots and more.
The first audio commentary track is with producer/director Jeff Tremaine, cinematographer/director of photography/co-producer Dimitry Elyaschkevich and producer/star Johnny Knoxville. It's fun to listen to as they list every single thing that went wrong with the stunts in the movie. The second audio commentary track is by the cast, minus Johnny Knoxville, who seem to have had a better time recording it than I did listening to it.
MTV's Making Of Jackass:The Movie(24:33) is better than your average making of. While it is your standard on-set interviews with the cast and crew mixed in with behind-the-scenes footage making of it also includes a lot of footage from the film along with stuff that was cut which is sure to please any fan of the show.
Also included are seven minutes of bloopers, nearly a half hour's worth of deleted scenes(some of which can briefly be seen in the film), promo spots for the film including one for the soundtrack and one for merchandise, two music videos(If You're Gonna Be Dumb by Roger Alan Wade and We Want Fun by Andrew W.K.), cast and crew biographies and a theatrical trailer for the film. Not mentioned on the back cover is a theatrical trailer for The Core, Extreme Ops and a trailer for the Best Of Jackass the television show Volume 2 and 3 which are shown when you insert the disc in your DVD player.
Aside from stupid bits like clipper cam and Party Boy this film is actually quite funny and you can't help but watch in amazement at how stupid these people are to attempt some of the stunts shown in the film. If you're a fan of the show I'd recommend you get this DVD because you're gonna love it but if you haven't seen the show I'd recommend you rent it, you might be surprise at how much you actually enjoy it.
