Return To Rocky Mountain National Park
Our trip to Rocky Mountain National Park on the 4th of July somehow seemed incomplete. Something that a volunteer ranger had told Tom kept coming to mind. He had told Tom that if we wanted to experience the real Rocky Mountain National Park to take us around Old Fall River Road instead of Trail Ridge Road. So here we are, a week later returning to the park to see just what we missed. I am sure you will agree that the views from Old Fall River Road and Trail Ridge Road seem to come from two different worlds. The winding narrow one way road takes you from just past Sheep Lakes through the woods and up the mountain to Fall River Pass.
As you can see by this picture the road is really narrow and only wide enough for one vehicle. It was quite an exhilerating experience for me, yet kind of scary for Autumn and Baby Blue. The rocks and trees on the right side of the road were within reach simply by putting your hand out the window, and the drop off on the left side was what actually scared them the most. Autumn and Baby Blue both made it seem a lot closer than it really was LOL

Our first stop along Old Fall River Road was called Chasm Falls.

The view here at road level was awesome. We had no idea what was down the old rock trail below us.

As you descend down the trail you can hear the waters rustling by. Its amazing how many different sounds you hear along this trail. The beautiful songs of nature.

Actually what was behind us where the water came flowing through the rocks and fallen trees creating a small yet beautiful Waterfall

The small waterfall fed into a mountain stream,

Which made its way through the rocks and formed a spectaular Waterfall. It was incredible. The three of us were standing a good 150 feet away from the falls and could feel the spray coming from the rocks at the base.

Baby Blue and I just had to get closer, so off we went over the rocks and through the trees

To the base of the falls

When Autumn finally got us to come away from the falls Baby Blue and I managed to get her to relinquish the camera so we could get some pics of her LOL

OK we had killed enough time at the falls so we headed back up the trail towards the van, when we noticed Baby Blue was not right behind us. We turned around and looked back about 30 feet or so we noticed poor Baby Blue had tuckered out on us LOL

We gave Baby Blue a few minutes to catch her breath, then we were off to see what else lay waiting as we proceeded up the mountain toward Fall River Pass.
