The Story Of 0071
The original 0071 concept
The movie was created to mock a substitute teacher that seemed to be stuck in the 1970's. He annoyed everyone and was also banned from the bar that my parents frequent. His greatest quote was when someone had "stolen" the remote to the TV. I, being sincere, showed him a quote on my binder, and told him to "have a nice day." He looked at me and said "Mr. Tash, that is so 1971" After that we had a few more encounters, including one in which he visited Matt's house, but I'll tell those stories later.
The other person that we made fun of in this movie was my choir teacher. Considering that Sam didn't like her and you could consider his mom and my choir teacher "rivals" we had permission to mock her as much as we wanted.
The idea was originally thought up when we were on a bus ride home from a field trip to King's Island. Matt, Sam, and I were bored out of our skulls, when one of us had this crazy idea to have a movie to make a movie with Tim Dietrich and Ruth Bailey in it. We thought about it some more and we thought it would be funnier if it was the two of them trying to kill me, "Mr. Tash." The only thing left to do was to make up a name for this movie, some of these ideas were: Zen Wars, Dietrich Jones and the Twinkie of Doom, Return of the Fat One, but I finally suggested 0071, that being a cross between 007, and 71. We loved the idea and talked about a bit more before we got back to HJHS. We knew that this idea was stupid but it was a funny little time killer. Then one day we were talking about the trip and we considered filming the movie, and on the date of June 11, 2001 we filmed the first movie at Sam Sher's house.
After we were done we watched the movie and we had a good laugh, as we knew that the no one would ever like this movie other than us and our parents, who like all other parents like everything that their kid is in. No one would watch this movie until a few weeks after school started, and then the compliments just started rolling in. A few people suggested that we do a sequel. We were amazed that people liked our little movie and that they thought a sequel would be cool.
We picked Abby Braune to play the part of Pamela Colligan and Corey Marsh to play the part of Captain Crunch. Later Abby dropped out of our project and we asked Amanda Becht to play the part of Pam. She also dropped out of the movie and so did Corey, leaving us with no one to play these parts. A few days before filming Sam talked to fellow classmate Jared Eaton and we had our man to play Captain Crunch. After an extensive search to find a girl to play Pam Colligan, Jared agreed to take over that role. For this film Sam thought it would be better if we had someone do be the designated cameraman so we could have everyone on screen at the same time. He asked Michael Hall, a friend that he had made a few movies with before, if he would do camera work for us. He agreed and we had our cast and crew.
The day of the filming Matt told us that he would be late to the filming so we should do the scenes that didn't have Tim in it. Instead of being responsible and doing that we instead sat down and watched the first movie because Jared hadn't seen it yet. After that we tried to start filming the scenes without Matt in them, but after he showed up we started all over again. After the first few scenes Mike started to feel sick and he went home, leaving us without a camera man. We thought that we had come too far to quit now so we did what we did in the first movie, everyone filmed scenes, and we did a good job might i mention. Sam gave us the copies of the tape on the day that the show choir went to Branson, but when we got back, people came up to me and told me that they loved this film also, and they wanted us to do a third one. Sam and I discussed the third movie and we set a date.
The filming commenced and after long hours of of hard work we realized that the movie sucked and we needed to start over. That leaves us where we are today. Thinking up ways to make it funny, and make people want to stick around to see the fourth one.
