A Little About Megan
Inuyasha
He is a Hanyou, which means half demon/ half human. His mother was a human, his father was a dog demon. He was put to eternal sleep by Kikyo's sealing arrow. He was later awoken by Kagome 50 years later. Controlled by Kagome, by a magical rosary around his neck, Inuyasha helps Kagome in the search for the pieces of Shikon shards. Before his father died, Inuyasha's father told Totosai, a swordmaker to make his two sons, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, swords made from his teeth. Totosai began working. Sesshomaru was to receive the Tenseiga, which can revive 100 humans with one swing, and Inuyasha would receive the Tetsusaiga, which can kill 100 demons in one swing. The Tetsusaiga does more than that though. It also keeps Inuyasha's demon blood in check. But if the Tetsusaiga ever broke......whoever is around him better take cover. Because the Tetsusaiga contains a seal on his blood and if that seal is broken, Inuyasha becomes a bloodthirsty, ravenous full-blooded demon (Me after taxes).
But, as a half-demon, he has one single weakness. He will turn into a human on the night of a full moon. That usually causes problems when he's about to battle.
Inuyasha wants the Shikon Jewel for himself so that he can become a full-blooded demon. That is why he joined Kagome's quest for the Jewel Shards. But soon, his reasons for staying would change...
Kagome
The girl pulled from the modern times into the past. She holds within her body the Shikon Jewel, which every demon wants. Most of them want it to become stronger. But because of her arrow, the jewel shattered and scattered throughout the land. Now she must help Inu-Yasha hunt down every single one of the shards. When she first met Inuyasha, he was asleep, pinned to a tree by an arrow. On her way through the well, she encountered a spider demon who wanted the Shikon Jewel inside her. She then met Lady Kaede, who told her to go and awaken Inuyasha. After his awakening, he easily dispatched the demon. But he set his eyes on Kagome. Whether or not he sensed the Jewel, or whether he thought that she looked lke Kikyo, Inuyasha began to attack Kagome. Lady Kaede tossed a rosary bead fang necklace around him. She then told Kagome to say a word that would suppress him. And the first thing that popped into her head was...SIT!! And the necklace pulled Inuyasha at top speed towards the ground (ouch). Now she rarely says it unless she's angry at him (touchy girl). Kagome and Inuyasha slowly start begin to show their feelings towards each other later on in the story.
Sesshomaru
Inuyasha's older brother. He is a full demon. Though he is Inuyasha's older brother, he cares not for his safety. He actually wants to kill him (Some kind of sibling rivalry, huh, folks?). He is after Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga for two main reasons. One, he thinks that his sword, the Tenseiga, is worthless seeing as how he cares not for humans and doesn't need its power. And two, because he believes that Inuyasha isn't worthy enough to wield the Tetsusaiga, that only he can harness its true strength. He, unlike Inuyasha, despises humans. So he does not value human life. But Sesshomaru soon finds Totosai's apprentice, and he then makes Sesshomaru a sword more to his liking. Called the "Tokijin", it is more powerful than any sword ever made (except for the Tetsusaiga, of course!) ;)
Miroku
A perverted buddist priest. He likes to introduce himself to any pretty girl and then asks them to have his baby. He does have a serious side though and is also quite intelligent. Unfortunate for him, his family has been cursed to have a Wind Tunnel on their right hand. This is like a black hole which sucks in everything around him. This is quite useful in battles, but unfortunately, as time goes on, the power of the Wind Tunnel grows, and he is in more potential danger of being sucked in himself. This was how his previous ancesters died.
Kikyo
She was the village priestess who guarded her village in ancient Japan from evil. She was a kind-hearted person and liked to help people. She protected the powerful Shikon Jewel from evil. However, she was critically injured but before she died, she shot Inuyasha with an enchanted arrow, sending him to eternal sleep. After she died, the Shikon Jewel was cremated with her body. Later on in the story, she was resurrected by a witch named Urasue and we are able to find out more about her past, especially her relationship with Inuyasha.
Naraku/Onigumo
One of the most powerful demons in this series. He has the ability to control puppets through wooden dolls to attack Inuyasha and the gang. This way he will keep himself out of battles and avoid being killed (coward). But Onigumo is the human-looking demon behind Naraku. Naraku came to be when Onigumo was very injured and the priestess Kikyo came and took care of his wounds. Slowly but surely he began to fall in love with her. So in order to fully regain his strength, he made a pact with a bunch of demons. He let them have his body in exchange for power. Thus, Naraku. He is also after the Shikon Jewel and almost succeeded in posessing it, but Kikyo took it and buried it with her when she died. But an evil witch named Urasue stole Kikyo's ashes and revived her so that she could find the Shikon Jewel Shards. And now Naraku joins the struggle for the shards, along with the help of his demon spawn children, Kanna, and Kagura.
Lady Kaede
Kikyo's younger sister, who became the village priestess after Kikyo's death. After meeting Kagome, who was believed to be the reincarnation of Kikyo, and aiding her in the resurrection of Inuyasha, she occasionally accompanies them on their quest, but mostly spends her days in her village. But when an evil witch named Urasue came to the village, stole Kikyo's remains and brought her back to life, Kaede sought to lead her previously-dead-but-now-resurrected sister's soul to rest.
Shippo
A cute little orphaned fire-fox demon. (I can't help it! He is cute, ya know! Even though he sort of looks like a girl...) He is the first to join the gang. As he is still young, his powers are not yet fully developed but he is able to disguise himself in many forms. He soon forms some sort of a brotherly attachment to Inuyasha and cares a lot for the gang.
Sango
A demon exterminator, as was her family. She fights with a huge boomerang and went around killing demons while collecting the Shikon Jewel shards. One night her family was killed by a spider demon and was told by Naraku that Inu Yasha attacked her village. During the revenge, Sango learns the truth and becomes part of the gang together with her pet, Kirara, a cat-like demon that grows huge when it senses danger.
Myoga
A flea demon. He was the retainer to Inuyasha and his father. After Inuyasha's father died Myoga was to guard the powerful sword, the Tetsusaiga, made by Inuyasha's father's tooth. It was found that the sword was made to be used by the half demon to protect humans. Also the sword has the abilities to suppress Inuyasha's demon blood. Myoga pops up now and again at quiet times to travel and help Inuyasha. Although he always disappears during battles (smart flea), he does helps in providing some background knowledge of unknown demons has he has a great knowledge of types of demons, usually picked up though his travels.
Jaken
The servant of Sesshomaru, Inuyasha's brother. He has this staff with the heads of a old woman and an old man atop it, which is used to locate the Tetsusaiga. Even though he is small, Sesshomaru has a bit of use for him. When he's not out locating Inuyasha and the Tetsusaiga, he's getting sliced by the Tenseiga the test subject of Sesshomaru's to test the powers of the Tenseiga. Though he isn't killed by it, thanks to the power of the Tenseiga, it really is a pitiful sight. Jaken truly is useless. But hey, I'm just one man voicing his opinions.
Kohaku
He is a demon exterminator in training. His sister, Sango, and his father were sent to deal with a demon at a lord's manor one night. That was when everything went terribly wrong...
A small spider demon landed on Kohaku's back and he lost control of himself. He started attacking his family. Killing his father and severely wounding his sister. Sango was left for dead and Kohaku went to serve his new master, Naraku. Kohaku has constantly proven to be a difficult opponent for his sister. She knows that he does not know what he is doing, and Naraku has been able to use Kohaku as leverage against Sango even going so far as to get her to betray the group.
Rin
After a particularly difficult battle, Sesshomaru is left extremely injured and alone, a young girl who seems to be unable to speak comes across him and begins to slowly nurse him back to health. The girl is discovered by her fellow townspeople to be stealing food (for Sesshomaru) and she is severly beaten as punishment. The people say that they are getting tired of dealing with her, and that Rin, as they call her, has not spoken since her parents died. Rin returns with the food for Sesshomaru, and he takes notice of the beating she has recieved, he asks her what happened, but she does not answer, and he seems not to mind.
A few days later, Jaken finds Sesshomaru, but just as he does, Sesshomaru smells blood in the air. Deciding to check it out, he finds that Rin has been killed by a pack of wolves (Koga's wolves to be exact). After frightening the wolves away, Sesshomaru uses the Tenseiga to bring her back to life, and she has traveled with him ever since.
Kagura
Kagura, the Wind User is the first of Naraku's children to actually appear, though she is not the oldest. Because Naraku's children smell like him, it was assumed that Naraku has taken on the form of this young woman, but soon the truth is realized. Kagura is a ruthless enemy, and Naraku manipulates her well. He often sends her on dangerous missions and at times seems to force her to take unneccessary risks with her life on the line. Because of this, Kagura holds a deep hatred of him, but because he physically holds her heart she is unable to leave him or risk dying. Some time into the series, she is aided by her older sister, Kanna, who tries to take Kagome's soul and trap it in her soul mirror.
Kanna
An emotionless, unquestioning spawn of Naraku. She is the second to make an appearance. Although she looks young, she is actually the oldest of all his creations. Kanna is always seen with her mirror, which allows her to show Naraku where almost anyone is at a particular time as well as absorb souls of her victims. Once she absorbs their souls they fall under her possession. She succeeded in trapping Kagome's soul in her mirror, but because it was too much for the mirror to contain, she released it.
