What is "Evil Meat" and what do we stand for?
-We are a non-profit organization that advocates animal protection and rights. Specifically, our goal is to shut down distributors of foods containing illegally slaughtered endangered animals.
Although this may seem like a rare occurrence, it is startling how often endangered species are served as specialty menu items in certain restaurants in the USA.
(Many of these food items are also packaged and sold in stores, but that is more common in countries other than America).
These menu items can be given a number of deceptive names that are generally made to sound like Asian or African dishes served in foreign restaurants. They are most often highly priced, a single serving worth anywhere between $10-$20.
The variety of endangered animals being sold is by no means limited to a single species or even just mammals. Owl, lizard, tiger, elephant, rhino, and even whale can be part of the menu.
This market has only recently developed, starting with the sale of elephant ears and trunks to American buyers through the black market after it became apparent to several poachers that there were other portions that could be profited from besides the tusks of the animals that had been killed. Soon after, however, this wholesale slaughter of endangered species spread as it was realized that this market was viable, no matter how illegal.
Sales immediately skyrocketed, fuelled by the rarety of the meat along with cultural superstitions of the qualities of certain animals that can supposedly be passed to anyone who consumes parts of the flesh.
Please help us stop this senseless slaughter of endangered species; otherwise, there may not be any tigers, elephants, gorrillas, or rhinos in the next 20 years.
