Mike Sewell. Who? Mike Sewell

Hello, my name is Justin Michael Sewell. You can just call me Mike. I was born in Zachary, LA and grew up in Broomfield, CO. I graduated from Broomfield High School in 2001. I am the oldest of three children and will probably be the shortest in a few weeks (my sister seems to grow every time I see her). I currently reside in Greensboro, NC where I am a senior pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Aggie Pride!!! To all my friends I have met in North Carolina, best of luck to you all and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for us. We did it!! Much love to the class of 2005.

Why I am getting my PhD

Well, eventually I want to get my PhD in Human-Computer Interaction. As for immediately after I graduate, I will be working towards my Master's in Computer Science focusing on HCI. I am still waiting for decisions from four schools, but I am leaning towards attending the University of Michigan. Michigan has a great Computer Science department with a significant amount of research being conducted. There seems to be a pretty nice support network between students and they all seem to be enjoying themselves at Michigan. Ann Arbor appears to be a pretty nice place as well. I am trying to hold out for some of the California schools and of course Colorado, but Michigan's program will be tough to beat.

OK, I have a confession to make. The picture at the top of the page is not me. That's my brother during his senior year in high school. I didn't want to mislead you all. I made the image using Paint Shop. My brother is one of the people I look up to ... literally :-P. He has had many successes in life (and will have many in the future) and has remained a humble, patient, and genuine guy... This provides perfect segue to my family, four of my best friends:

Geoff is currently a freshman at the University of Denver. He is majoring in computer science as well. He has enjoyed himself thus far and is one quarter away from being a sophomore. He played basketball and soccer in high school and won a state championship in both sports. He enjoys video games and would like to become a video game developer one day. Ummm... he's pretty cool too.

My mom currently works at Avaya in Westminister, CO. She also enjoys storytelling and is often hired to tell stories by people in Colorado. Her favorite character to portray is her grandmother who died of Alzheimers a few years ago. She was born in Mississippi and attended Southern for her BS. She got her MS at the University of Denver. I really respect all of the obstacles that my mom overcame from when she grew up in Baton Rouge. She is talented and always makes sure that I my head is on straight.

My dad currently works at Qwest in Denver, CO. He really enjoys playing basketball. I think that's where I got the love of the game from. In fact, my personality is very similar to my dad's. He was born and grew up in Baltimore, MD. He has a twin sister name Shelly. My dad attended college at Morgan State. I really admire my dad's focus, determination, thoughtfulness, and his ability to stay calm in any situation.

Last but not least is my little sister Chaundra. She is currently in 8th grade. She has participated in basketball, soccer, and volleyball this past year and is a really good student. We think that she may break the engineering trend in my family, she loves animals. We think she may be a veterinarian. I love the fact that my sister is very outspoken, you will always know how she feels about things. She is a loving and caring person and I'm excited to see what the future holds for her. I still cannot believe she is as tall as me!

This is a picture of my girlfriend Angela and me. Isn't she lovely? Angela and I met at a recruitment trip for the University of Michigan. We decided to keep in touch and one thing led to another, now we are together! Angela is from Jackson, MS and is attending Jackson State University. Angela a is very intelligent, funny, and understanding woman. I hope that I can help her reach some of her goals in life and be a blessing to her as she has been to me. Love ya Angela and thank you!
