The cut-up technique, originally developed by Gysin and Burroughs has since influenced
- David Bowie (musician)
- Gilles Deleuze and Felix Guattari (philosophers)
- and countless experimental writers.
In the modern age of hypertext and internet accessibility, similarities can be drawn between the way we take in fragmented information from the internet and the way a cut-up sequence reads. The cut-up was a step towards 'multimedia' as we know it today and also a break-through in literature which gave writers a new way of working and readers a new experience in text.
