On the 14th of March "Cody", a beautiful yellow Labrador Retriever, came home. It was a 4-hour drive round trip to pick him up. Once he got home he played with a little penguin and we all "oohhed" and "aahhed" over him for about an hour. He finally went to sleep for the night in his brand new kennel. He was so tiny in that kennel that it seemed to swallow him up like an abyss. He got up several times to go outside. Things were so hopeful on those first few days... dreaming of the crisp fall mornings when we would be able to take him out for his first duck hunt, sitting quietly in the blind and waiting for his que, and then a warm peaceful nap in the afternoon knowing the satisfaction of a job done well. That sweet nectar was all about to turn sour...
