Introduction
We are a small group -- the Avariel is a small pack. We have no ambition to make it bigger than it is, though we would welcome additional players into our fold. Should you decide to join us, we would prefer if you took a premade pup character, but if that is not possible, the information below will allow you to create your own Avariel Wolf. The pack itself is made up of a race of wolves who call themselves the Avariel, and they differ from "normal" wolves significantly. They can be of any colour or design, and possess a meangerie of powers that are only limited by the mun's imagination.
The rules are simple. We are an active group, and if you plan to join, you must also plan to be active. We do logs almost daily, and the occasional "big" story line is held on the message board. You should be familiar both with instant message role-play and board role-play, though this is not exactly a requirement -- anyone with writing talent, skill and creativity is welcome. I hope that no arguments between muns arise, but if they do, then they will be irreversibly settled by me. Other than that.. we ask only that you respect both the characters and the players, and enjoy yourself.
The Religion
Avariel were god-forged and god-chosen, so it goes without saying that they are a devout people. The have a collection of six gods, who each reign over an element, and over whom the wolves are held sway. Respect and veneration is given to all of the deities, but each wolf is born beneath a specific one to whom extra attention is given and received. This is by heritage: the pup born will be of either their mother or father's element and deity. The deities are listed below:
x Anar: Sun-god, "father god," god of light.
+ Isil: Moon-goddess, "mother goddess," goddess of shadows.
+ Valyria: Earth-goddess, goddess of flora and stone.
x Naron: Fire-god, god of fire.
+ Alantha: Sea-goddess, goddess of water, ice, snow and storms.
x Kyorlin: Air-god, god of air.
Powers
The powers are widely varied and unique to the wolf, though a few might be passed down from the parents or shared by siblings. Variations to certain powers do exist, and some powers are common, like empathy, telepathy, and healing. If you decide to create a character, you can create any powers you like for your character, but we ask that they possess a maximum of three for now. Later we might extend this number, but at the present three is a good. Your powers will have to be approved by the leaders, but we're not picky and will accept most anything. A wolf will possess elementalism by default.. so in truth they have four, but few have the ability to really "wield" the elements with any skill. Gentle shaping and influence is really the forte of the Avariels, not all out weather-control.
The Hierarchy
Being a small pack, we are able to maintain a more "natural" ranking order, as it would be in the wild. A pair of alphas reside over the rest of the pack, and these two are the dominant rulers. They will choose their beta, who will be the second most powerful wolf or wolves in the pack, and below him/her will be deltas, gammas, epsilons and omegas. The number of members that can attain a single rank is not limited, except for alpha and beta, which is limited to two. Many wolves are of a rank with each other, and have no desire to be higher or lower in the scheme of things, but also often wolves will challenge each other for a higher rank or deserve it by good deeds. An omega may rise to an epsilon by showing more dominance than most, and by pushing a weaker-willed wolf below him to make room, or by gaining the alpha's sanction to move higher -- there is no real "official" rank, for the ranks are mercurial and fluid, and change often. The wolves know their place, they have no need to announce it.
