Kagome and the Shikon no Tama - An Inuyasha/Harry Potter Crossover

CHAPTER ONE: "Tokyo for Christmas" Kagome Higurashi woke up on the ground just outside the wellhouse. She blinked several times, trying to remember how she had gotten there. Suddenly, it all flooded back to her and she gasped. "We did it. We destroyed Naraku. But, the others. . ." she couldn't bring herself to think the rest. She stood up gingerly, her body stiff and sore. She knew she'd been there for quite a while. The sun was just rising over the hills to the east, and the morning mist was starting to settle around her, adding to her general feelings of confusion and foreboding - feelings that were settling in her stomach and grew steadily worse as she realized what had happened. Suddenly, she knew. Deep inside herself, she knew the well was closed to her forever. But she couldn't just accept it. She had fought the urge for several seconds, but suddenly she couldn't stand it anymore. She ran to the wellhouse, threw open the door, and jumped into the well. The painful smash she got at the bottom of the well was her blunt answer. Too much in shock, too tired, and too depressed, she just sat there at the bottom of the old Bone Eater's Well - completely numb. And there she stayed -for how long she had no idea nor did she care- until a motherly voice finally coaxed her out of the well and led her wordlessly up to her room where she slept like the dead. * * * "Why does Professor Dumbledore need to see us?" Hermione Granger asked, worry etched in her face. Usually, when they had to see Professor Albus Dumbledore, something was up - usually something unpleasant. After the year they had last year, they were hard pressed to keep from being a little paranoid. Seeing the worried faces of Hermione, Ron Weasley, and Harry Potter, Professor McGonagall gave them all a small, reassuring smile. "Nothing to worry about, Miss Granger. Now, if you hurry, and you don't ask Professor Dumbledore too many silly questions, you won't miss Transfiguration, and I expect you all on time today as there will be a quiz promptly at the beginning of class." And with that, she quickly led them to the stone gargoyle that guarded the entrance to Dumbledore's office. She quickly said the password, Pumpkin Pasties, and the gargoyle leapt aside revealing the now familiar moving staircase. The three of them stepped onto the staircase, and Professor McGonagall left them to their own devices as the staircase spiraled up to Dumbledore's office. They entered, and found Professor Dumbledore sitting serenely at his desk, eyes twinkling behind his spectacles. "Sit down, will you? I have some good news that you may find interesting." Dumbledore said calmly, though there was the slightest trace of excitement in his voice. Their notorious curiosity piqued, they quickly sat down and waited for Dumbledore to explain. "I have just gotten news that we will be enrolling a new student. She is close to your age, and is from Japan. She's seventeen years old, and I believe her name is Kagome Higurashi." Professor Dumbledore said, pausing for the inevitable barrage of questions. The first, naturally, came from Hermione. "If she's our age, why hasn't she been here since first year? Wouldn't it be rather difficult for her to catch up to our level this late in the game?" The second came from Harry, "And what does this have to do with us?" and the third came from Ron, "Japan? Clear from Japan? Does she speak English?" "Well, she didn't discover her abilities until her fifteenth birthday. Since then, she's been very difficult to contact. She has recently been made available to us, and, her magical ability being too exceptional to ignore, I've seized the chance to enroll her at Hogwarts. That's where you three come in. I was hoping that you might, over the Christmas holiday, meet her in Japan, and assist Professor McGonagall in tutoring her. And yes, I believe she speaks English very well." "Us? All of us? I can see Hermione, but Harry and I aren't exactly the best picks for the job of tutor. . ." Ron said, obviously quite nervous at the prospect of tutoring someone, but Dumbledore merely smiled. "On the contrary, you two are exactly who I need to help her get caught up. Harry, having already fulfilled the position quite well last year," Dumbledore began, eyes twinkling mischievously, "would make an excellent Defense Against the Dark Arts tutor. And Ron, I've learned, speaks fluent Japanese." Two jaws dropped so far they were in danger of becoming unhinged, and one already freckled face grew redder than the hair that sat on top of it. "RON! How and when did you learn Japanese?" Hermione said, after finally finding her voice. Harry and Hermione sat their blinking unbelievably at Ron, as his face grew even redder. "M-my, my aunt on my mother's side married a Japanese man, a-and my mum thought it was a good idea for him to teach me Japanese. S-said it might, c-come in handy someday. B-been l-learning it since I was three." Ron stuttered, flushing a more and more impossible shade of red with every sentence. For a moment, Harry and Hermione merely gawked at him. Dumbledore took this opportunity to speak again. "If you agree to this, you leave for Tokyo the day before Christmas break, and will receive extra points in the courses you tutor Miss Higurashi in. Also, I have gotten permission from your parents, Mr. Weasley, as they had stopped by my office on business early in the week. I do, however, need written permission from your parents by the end of this week, Miss Granger." Dumbledore said, obviously certain they would not say no, the tiny show of satisfaction growing every second on his face. Despite the slight pang Harry felt at the realization that his Godfather was no longer around to ask permission from, he realized that Dumbledore hadn't said he had to ask the Dursley's for permission which helped a little. Whether it was their endless curiosity, or the prospect of a trip to such an exotic place for Christmas that finally made them agree, they weren't sure - they just knew they were heading to Japan in a few weeks, and they couldn't help but feel excited about it.
