The Landau is the first modified vehicle scene in Mad Max 2 aka The Road Warrior, besides max's. The car is scene in the first chase sequence of the movie, it starts by tailing Max with Wez on the bike, and a dune buggy. Then after a few minutes of high speed driving and small collisions with other cars and objects, the vehicle is destroyed in a massive crash with the dune buggy. For more information on the chase sequence see links to the script abstract's at the bottom of the page.
Nice front/side on picture of a Landau.
The Landau produced between 1973 and 1976 is basically a Falcon Hardtop,
but with the features of a LTD, there for sold as luxury car under the
LTD banner. The Landau design used the Falcon Hardtop (coupe) body, but
with the LTD sedan of the same era's front sheet metal (retractable headlights,
bumpers, guards, bonnet, ect.), Interior, running gear, tail lights and
sheet metal surrounding. The landau also had a piece of sheet steel added
to the rear courtier window to square it off, giving the vehicle a more
prestegious look.
Specifications include a 351 4V engine, compression 8.9:1, and BHP
290 @ 5000 rpm as standard, FMX Auto and 9 inch LSD.
Take a close look at the bumper on the picture
below, then compare it to the picture below that. :-)

Check out the bumpers, the same huh. Oh yeah this picture is of
a 1957 Buick. Picture reproduced from The
Buick Gallery.
The Landau in Mad Max 2 has always been one of may favourite cars in the movie, but up until recently i had know idea what the front bumper was from. I recently talked to Tony, a mad max fan who has built a replica of max's black on black and may again. He imports American vehicles, and he thought the bumper was off a 1957 Buick, so i spent some time looking at pictures of Buicks on the net, and as the man said the bumper is of a 1957 Buick.
Nice shot of the front. Thanks to 5.7 Interceptor for the picture go
to his web page.
Defiantly the same item. Picture reproduced from Weimers
Web site.
The Landau hasn't had too many modifications done
to it, the most visible ones being the Buick front bumper, a single headlight
surrounded by mesh each side of the grill, reinforcing rod flares, weird
rear wheel set up and the semi fake exhaust system. Semi fake because it
looks in the movie as if the exhaust exits through 4 pipes each side in
the guard (rocker panel) then to one tube each side with out a muffler,
but it actually leaves the engine via the standard exhaust system but about
half way along the car it joins with the side pipe. The rear wheel set
up is strange as one side has two wheels whilst the other has only one
with its partner mounted on the boot.
The mean lookin things on the bonnet consist of a
webber carby bolted to the front of a large turbo, in a suck through set up.
there is two of these and one sits upside down compared to its neighbour.
I made up a single one of these for a turbo system to be fitted to four
cylinder. In the film these were as with most things in Mad Max all fake and
purely for show.
