Cara and Elena's best ever Wimbledon results in the Ladies Doubles keeps improving!! They are through to the semi finals after beating 5th seeds Kim Po-Messerli and former Singles finalist Nathalie Tauziat in two very close sets 7-5 7-6(3). It was a match of service break, 5 took place in the first set alone, Elena being the only player on court not to be broken. All looked comfortable until a vital overrule against Cara and Elena which seemed to knock their rhythm and from that point they had difficulty in beating their Swiss/French opponents.

In the semis they will play against the Spanish/Argentinian combination of Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez who are reigning French Open doubles champions.

On a side note, congratulations to Elena on achieving a singles career best at Wimbledon by reaching the quarter-finals where unfortunately she was beaten by Venus Williams.

Cara and Elena eased into the quarter finals of Wimbledon for their best showing there in their careers, their previous best being 2nd round.  De Villiers and Selyutina went with little resistance beaten 6-3 6-3.  Cara and Elena went 4-2 up quickly but Cara's serve was broken, fortunately they broke back straight away and didn't look back.

They will play the 5th seeds Kim Po-Messerli and Nathalie Tauziat who are ranked 9th and 12th in the world respectively. Caution must be drawn from the fact that they ended Martina Navratilova's dream of equaling Billy Jean King's  20 Wimbledon titles.

Phew! That was close, Cara and Elena came back from a break down in the third set to beat Musgrave/Tanasugarn 5-7 6-0 6-4. They were able to go through to the third round where they will meet Nannie De Villiers(RSA)/Irina Selyutina(KAZ) currently ranked 71 and 74 respectively. On a side note, this Wimbledon Irina is playing mixed doubles with Cara's brother, Wayne.

Unfortunately, Cara and Byron were not able to go past the first round, they lost in two very close sets, both went to tie-breakers but Florent/Schiavone rallied to win 7-6 (4) 7-6 (2).  This means that Cara is now only playing in the Ladies Doubles at Wimbledon 2002.

Cara Black and Elena Likhovtseva def. Nathalie Dechy and Mary Pierce: 6-2 6-2

Report by "bluepastures":

Oh dear Mary. Your team won just 4 games, and I thought you were fortunate to get them. With this form, I wonder how on earth she got so far in Roland Garros.
She looked very slow. To me, she looked a bit overweight too. Dechy didn't play well, but she was better than Pierce. Black and Likhovtseva ran the French pair all over the court.
At times they were almost toying with them. Even Stubbs and Raymond will struggle against them on this form. Black especially was quite brilliant at times.

Wimbledon draws released. Cara's bad luck in Grand Slam draws continues as she is drawn up against Barbara Schett seeded 29th in singles.

Cara partners Elena Likhovtseva and they are seeded 4th. (Fortunately) they are on the opposite side of the draw to the WIlliams Sisters (3). They are drawn up against qualifiers TBC.
