Cara and Elena's run was ended today by 2nd seeds Virginia Ruano Pascual and Paola Suarez. In a rain interrupted match which stretched across 5 hours, straight after the warm-up an 1 hour rain delay delayed proceedings. Cara and Elena started the match better securing a double break to go up 3-0 in under 10 minutes. It looked as if it would be a one sided affair but as Elena's forehand went MIA and they lost the next 6 games. The 2nd set was more evenly matched, Elena and Cara sticking to the net with Virginia and Paola preferring to use their ground strokes from the back of the court. Cara and Elena led 5-2 before another rain delay halted their form. The two teams traded breaks to be even at 2-2 but the Spanish and Argentinean duo were the ones who streaked to a 5-2 lead, a break of Suarez' serve wasn't enough to keep them in the match as they fell 6-4 after just over 1hr 30 mins. |
