Shelter of Hope Animal Services



  1. Shelter of Hope Animal Services restricts its animal care and adoption facility to domestic animals (dogs and cats).
  2. Handling urban wildlife is NOT part of our mandate.
  3. All animal services calls are coordianted through our Port Hope dispatch phone number at (905) 885-8092
  4. Animal Services will not respond to calls after 6:00 p.m. during week days or between 6:00 p.m. Friday evening and 9:00 a.m. Monday morning UNLESS dispatched by Port Hope Communications Centre, Police, Fire or equivalent emergency authority. Animal Services DOES NOT include handling urban wildlife.

    EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROTOCOL

    What Constitutes an Emergency?

    1) A seriously injured stray dog or cat, that requires immediate veterinary care, with no identification tag AND no owner present;

    2) A potentially rabid animal that HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HUMANS OR YOUR PET. If there is no human or pet contact, the matter will be referred to the Animal Services Manager for follow up during regular shelter hours. Animals with suspected rabies or disease will require a minimum 10 day quarantine at the adoption clinic when ordered under the authority of the Haliburton, Kawartha Pine Ridge Health Unit ((905) 885-9100).

    ONLY IF THE EMERGENCY FITS THIS PROTOCOL, WILL AN ANIMAL SERVICES OFFICER BE DISPATCHED. All other calls will be re-routed to the Animal Services Manager for follow up during regular business hours (as posted above).

    INJURED OWNED ANIMALS: Owners will be advised to contact their veterinary clinic.
