The Mary Sue Litmus Test
Okay, this for the writers that come to the site because I know it comes in handy--from time to time, of course. Creating characters is HARD.
Extremely hard, mind you. (Especially when you are writing a novel about a war. *cough*)
Every person who reads has at least one time come across a Mary Sue. Mary Sue's are every where from fantasy to historical, and there are so many different opinions about them, it is unbelievable.
Some say that Mary Sue's are great and enjoyable. Of course, the rest of society (the 99.9% left over) believe that Mary Sue's are what they are--over-used, over-done, irritatingly perfect characters. Mary Sue's are the brains, the beauty, and the wit all rolled into a 6 foot Barbie with huge knockers.
Sickening, ain't it?
So, then there are the people that want to abolish all Mary Sue's. (I stand neutral for the most part, although sometimes Mary Sue's get a bit annoying.) "Litmus tests" are created to see if your fanfiction/novel character is the dreaded Mary Sue.
Want to find out? Take my version of the Mary Sue Litmus test. (Quite humorous, if I might say so myself.) Click the link just below this text to take it.
My Very Own Mary Sue Litmus Test
I adapted my Mary Sue Litmus test from the some sited at the link below. (The link is also in my Links page, by the way.) You can check out the original by clicking below.
Mary Sue Litmus Test
In the Links section of my site, I have two Mary Sue Litmus tests posted. One is a general test (see above as well), and the other is formatted for Lord of the Rings fanfictions. (There are more Mary Sue's in Lord of the Rings fanfictions than dustbunnies under my bed!)
