While sitting in my living room some conversation came up about how one of my friends is now married by common law or at least he considers himself married. He and the woman he lives with have a kid together and have insurance together. My brother and his friend were talking about the rules of common law marriage and joked about what if two guys were living together as roommates and this same sex marriage thing comes through… Then my brother's friend said this is Texas, it won't happen here. Then they started talking about rights for gays and lesbians to adopt…and then my brother’s friend said that he wished that all of the gays and lesbians would be put on one island and blown up. He said “seriously”. My brother said that would likely be a big explosion…and I said well about 10% some people say, but others say that is a high estimate. (after some research it looks like that number is way high) In his defense, as much as I despise what he has said… he is going through a tough time. His girlfriend, with whom he had a child with, left him for another girl and now they are battling over custody. But he lacks understanding as so many people do. I just bit my tongue and said nothing because of the situation I am in. I just sat back and listened. I know he does not picture me on that island. But what if he knew? *** UPDATE *** 4-2-03. Well thank God, the girlfriend, with whom my brother's friend had a child with realized what she almost lost. She decided she did not want to throw their relationship away. I consider this GREAT news! Their relationship is different now, and it will take some work. I will be praying for them. **Update** They are still together today 2-8-04. |
