Feeding A Newt

In order to keep a newt healthy, the food must be balanced so that proper nutrition is maintained.

Here is a list of foodstuffs that newts enjoy:

-crickets

-chopped live earthworms

-black worms

-brine shrimp

-glass/ghost shrimp

-white worms

-fruit flies

-wax worms (use small ones only, and only on occasion)

Another note, feeder fish are not good for newts. A newt should be fed every third day, though small food items like fruit flies and brine shrimp may be offered in between these times too. These small food items are small and swift, they keep the attention of the newt up and give it something to 'play with'. The food should be given to the newt in intervals so that the animal does not have a nutritional deficiency and so that it does not get bored by the lack of variety in its diet.
