There exists a standardized test in the state of Pennsylvania, in my area of it anyway, which is either called the PASA or the PASSA, I can not recall which, for I do not remember it.
Surely, you are interested in this. You may wonder to yourself, "What is this test for?" Ah ha. I shall tell you. Nothing of importance, for me anyhow. It is not necessary for graduation, and colleges dont see it. Therefore, I care little for being the guinea pig of Pennsylvania.
This is why I had a jolly time taking the test today. For I figured, "Hmmm, this test matters little. Why not have a jolly time?" Todays PASA test was math. So begins my jolly adventure.
Throughout the test, I decided to alter specefic items in the questions in order to satisfy myself. For example, one question involved two colored cubes, one which was red and one which was yellow. I scratched out the words red and yellow and replaced them with green and blue. When there was a problem involving cows and milk, I altered it to fish and pepsi. I engaged in such shenanigans throughout the multiple choice section. Also, I drew funny pictures! Ha ha. Also, when I saw a particularly foolish answer, I would circle it and surround it with exclamation marks and question marks. When I saw one of their traps, in which they try to deliberately decieve the student, well, I let them know I saw it.
The real fun didnt come until the non multiple choice sections. In this we were required to show our work, and, get this, write an explanation as to why we did the steps we did. Oh, ha ha ha ha. Surely you are all aware of my unique ability to write in an odd, and often humorous fashion? Well, this is how I explained my answers, I used my McNerf Speak. Oh, ha ha ha ha. Those test graders will probably go like this:
I know not if I can recall any of my exact words, but, oh, they were odd. Also, instead of ending my sentences with periods, I ended them with exclamation marks, or several. And I started off several of my sentences with, "Assuming my previous answer was somehow correct..."
Ah, ha ha ha ha ha. Well, it amuses me anyhow.
Does anybody else have amusing tales of tom foolery that ye have engaged in upon a standardized test? Do tell. PASA's are 7 days, so I shall update this thread every day with my new shenanigans.

Standardized tests should be banned from the face the earth. They're pointless and insult the intelligence of people in general.

Standardized tests should be banned from the face the earth. They're pointless and insult the intelligence of people in general.
And so how then does a college in California judge the abilities of a high school student in Florida compared with a high school student in Maine?
Let's assume equal qualifications in terms of GPA and extra-curriculars and the like.
They don't have enough information on thehigh school to make a judgement. The kid in Florida could have gone to an easy high school and have an inflated GPA. The kid in Maine went to a very tough one and maybe had a lower GPA than he would have had elsewhere.
How do you compare the two and figure stuff like that out then?
Standardized tests are the only way to do it. They put everyone on equal footing and provide a basis for comparison between students of different backgrounds.

Yes, but you need to consider that some people may be able to get way with cheating on these tests. I know several people who cheated on standarized tests and they had good scores, but were complete idiots...

I think each person should be judged individually, not against others. In addition, I think many of the standardized tests let students who don't test well fall through the cracks, as well as those whose strengths aren't really testable in such a way.

Like it or not, a college is a business.
They need to select the best.
With the number of people applying they need to be able to filter the initial applications to then pick from the remaining students.
Standardized tests are one of these filters. And they are not perfect, but they are the best we have. And they put everyone on equal footing so people can be compared.
And yes there is cheating, but there is cheating in high school too. Cheating exists everywhere.
If you have skills that are not tested on the standardized tests, there are other ways to get into college.
If you are interested in having a full fledged discussion on this let me know and perhaps we should start a thread in the Senate.

They need to select the best.
Oftentimes, the "best" do poorly in college, and the real best people don't do well on the tests and their strengths don't belong on a bubble sheet and paper.

I often do stuff like that, like
"What are rocks composed of : stuff"
Or sometimes when we're supposed to be writing something down, I just scribble on my paper. Fun. And of so many more!
I ( in my opinion ) don't like to take life so seriously, I don't like it when other people do either. I prefer to enjoy life and have fun, and find happiness and amusement in the simplest things. McNerf-Burger, I think you share my outlook on life. And for those of you who don't like this outlook, I SCRIBBLE ON YOUR FACE AND THROW PIES AT YOU!
If you want to talk about stupid state tests, I'm in NY. I shudder at the word...... Regents *shudders* Also, NY lowers the standards every years to make the kids look smarter. All you need here is a 50 to pass on some exams. So all you have to do is half as much of what is expected of you. And plus, all the Regents material has tons of spelling errors and is often WRONG. The review tests are so messed up, the class has to correct what the state messed up on. Sheesh.

That is funny. I took a really easy test in Texas called the TAAS. But I had to actually do it because you had to pass it to graduate. I regret I did not make fun of it, as I now live in Utah and have no purpose for my high TAAS scores.

Police to McNerf: Uh, sir, that's a state and Federal offense. Gather as many belongings as you can in this ziplock bag and follow me to the cruiser.
Not sure if that's true
Standarized tests aren't necessarily pointless, but I hate them. All of you who don't live in Massachusetts, USA are the lucky ones...no MCAS!

I agree, kudos to McNerf!! That is really funny. I never thought of doing anything as clever as that, although I wish I had!! I guess my only contribution was on my Pre-ACT test, which didn't count for anything. On the written part, instead of writing an essay on the question they asked, I instead wrote a short story about boys throwing snowballs at cars.

Fun thing to put on tests when you don't know the answer:
"monkey"
If you're being asked WHY something is such-and-such:
"Because that's the way it is."

AB, that reminds me of something:
I had a Resisitant Materials exam a few years back and really struggled on it. I tried to answer all the questions appropriatley, but I gave up:
Q. What does MDF stand for?
A. Monkey Diversifying Function.
My mate was on the floor in stitches when I told him.

I remember PSSAs. They were so worthless. I used to bomb them terribly because I didn't care. Finally it got to the point when the school wide scores were terrible, and this year (the year after I graduated) the school district mandates that all students achieve to a cetain standard (I wasn't paying attention to what it was because it didn't concern me.) I'm excited because I got to be one of the last people to blow off the test, but I feel sorry for my under siblings.

Stupid standardized tests...they actually amount to something where I live.
One of the questions was an analogy, and it read:
Cranium:Hat::______:Socks
The answer was "phelanges," but I put "JC members!"

I no longer have to take the TAAS because you have to pass as a sophmore and you're done. But i did make fun of it, especially once when our class was chosen as a "test group" the whole school takes a practice writing, plus the actual test. So i ended up taking three TAAS writing's that year, so the one for the "test" group was about whether zoos are good, the essay went something like this
"Zoos are good, because if you want to do some crazy animal test on an elephant it's much easier to go the zoo and pick out a nice fat one. Other wise you would have to buy a plane ticket get on a plane go to africa, join a safari, find an elephant, detain him, do your crazy animal test, go back to the airport, get on the plane, and come back"
Later the Essay degraded into:
"Also, I like monkeys. Monkeys good. Monkeys funny. Monkeys in cages. HAHAHA. Yummy Monkeys."
And I drew a monkey.

On the FCAT test in FL, I wrote notes to various grading people on it...like:
"Hey dude, your test sucks!"
and
"Christmas-treeing is fun"
and
"What if the hokey-pokey is really what it's all about?"
I wonder what they'll think of that- and I changed various peoples' names...like the presidents got flipped around.
