Mechanical pencils are the embodiment of all that is wrong with society today. I think a democrat invented the mechanical pencil...but thats another story.
Mechanical Pencils advocate laziness. Children no longer have to get off their butts and walk to the pencil sharpener.Its just, *click click* and everything is fine! Bah.
Mechanical pencils do not have sharp points.
Mechanical pencils can be used to smuggle illegal substances.
Mechanical Pencils are harmful to the enviorment. It has been predicted that by 2012, 45% of the earths global warming can be attributed to the widespread use of these tools.
Personally, I believe that the mechanical pencil is the WRITING UTENSIL OF SATAN!
They must be banned, banned at once! Who agrees?

Pens definately are better. But mechanical pencils are better than regular pencils.
Pens > Mechanical Pencils > Traditional Pencils.

I'm tired of people asking if I have .5 or whatever size lead I don't have any, and if I did, I wouldn't know what size it is!
I hate mechanical pencils...I also hate pens...

I LOVE my mechanical pencils!! I only use the cheap .7 lead Bic ones though, the 10 pack for $2.99.
And if the lead keeps breaking, find a bigger lead. .5 is really frail, .7 is nice, and .9 is just bigger.

silly people.. the reason the lead points break is that you have wayyy to much out!
I guess that's why the stereotype nerd carries a mechanical pencil...  most people don't know the proper way to use it!
I'm all for those pencils. Sure beats carrying around a sharpener or looking for one.
And mechanical pencils DO have sharp points. The edges are sharp - If you use the pencils correctly you can have a good writing side of the lead, a lighter broader tip for shading, and a super sharp edge, sharper than most sharpened pencils. Simple.
Funny thing is, my pencils keep getting stolen/lost. I usually find other people using them. I end up engraving something unique on mine.
EDIT:
and don't forget mechanical pencils save trees! And less pollution from those horrid shavings. Least most plastic pencils are recyclable

I wrote this about 8 years ago:sometimes i walk down the hall with a sharpened pencil in my hand, hoping that i'll trip and stab the person i hate most. it's a psychological thing, i guess, but lately all the pencil sharpeners have been dull around here. it sorta gives me the feelings of one who certainly lacks in pencil length. i've noticed that most people nowadays prefer to use mechanical pencils, and i realize how difficult the industrial revolution makes it for us guys with "average" pencils to be noticed. all the guys with "above average" pencils seem to get the furthest ahead in life, but something about me keeps me from purchasing a new pencil. maybe it has something to do with the fact that whenever i write something, i'm always alone. perhaps it's better that way, though, if i ever tried to co-author something, i might just end up stabbing my partner uncontrollably. the people at the unemployment office keep trying to cheer me up by saying, "it's not the size of your pencil that matters, but what you write with it." but they all have writers block because they use mechanical pencils. anyway, i always have to keep in mind that if i ever do stab somebody, they could get lead poisoning. that's just the way it goes. nobody loves a guy with a #2. you have to be #1.

Of course, that was just part one. Here's part two:i am a manly man, and i have a manly pencil. i love my pencil. my pencil kicks butt! it is the biggest pencil in the entire turbulent and eventful history of pencil manufacturing. you could really beat the poop out of somebody with this pencil. the most fun thing to do is make fun of guys with small pencils and then beat the poop out of them. sometimes i see some pathetic twerp who's forced to use a mechanical pencil and i laugh at him. i laugh, "ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!" and then i beat the poop out of him. i am above everyone. my pencil is the coolest; it never misspells. it's groovy groovy jazzy funky. my pencil has the biggest lead of anyone i know. no one gets further ahead in the writing business than i. and i owe it all to my aggressively titanic pencil. it writes with savage fervor and a character vengeance. my pencil is a pencil of the wild. it's a #1. after all, not just anybody can have a five foot long pencil to last his whole writing career. and it's always got an available sharpener. people jump at the chance to co-write with me. they say it's the most exhilarating experience they've ever encountered. as long as me an' my pencil are together, i am the happiest man alive. i am the epitome of manliness.

Nerf clearly you are way behind the times and have no concept of decent pencil-writing. Ain't nothing that rights quite like a mechanical pencil. It's a very smooth write. And regular pencils, when the begin their life are too long an hard to control and at the end of their life they are small and hard to hold. Clearly mechanical pencils are a boon to society as they make for neater writing and a more pleasurable writing experience.

I love mechanical pencils! Aside from keyboards and the occasional gel pen, there's nothing I'd rather write with more. No ink blots, no pencil sharpeners, and best of all, mechanical pencils never come with crappy erasers.
