Tulip Festival - Albany, NY
In May, 1949 The Knickerbocker News editors wrote
"Aware that Albany, being an old Dutch city, naturally
has a soft spot in its heart for tulips.
We respectfully suggest to Mayor Corning and the city fathers
that the tulip, of which there is hardly a lovelier flower,
be formally designated the official flower of the city of Albany
and that the city, having made the designation,
conduct an annual official tulip festival in
Washington Park next spring when the tulips are in bloom."
