.....Hello. My name is Mike Humphreys. I am a Certificated Flight Instructor currently freelancing at the Falcon Flight Center, and attending school at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. I spend my days attending classes, fulfiling the duties of Flight Team Vice President, and Flight Instructing. My long term goal is to become a line pilot for Delta Airlines.

.....Since my first ride in an airplane, I have loved flying. As a child when most of my friends were playing with He-Man and GI Joe, I would be the one running around, holding a model airplane in my hand. As the years went by my attraction to flight grew. Whenever a family vacation included air travel, my family and I were excited, but for different reasons. My parents were looking forward to five wonderful days on Paradise Island in the Bahamas, but I was looking forward to the airplane ride.

.....Surprisingly, I didn't decide to persue a career as an airline pilot until I was fourteen years old. When my dad originally suggested the idea I laughed. Months later, however, while watching the Kurt Russel airplane movie, Executive Decision, I finally made the decision.

.....Not knowing where to begin, I did an internet search and found a chat room @ keyword FSRC. I jumped right in and asked where I should start. The first two words in response to my question were Embry and Riddle. Other options such as the military route were mentioned, however I knew that wasn't for me. I asked more questions and continued my search on the internet. Within a few hours I had a better understanding of what it would take to become a pilot and I knew that Embry-Riddle was the college for me.

.....On Christmas Day, 1996, my Mom introduced me to Microsoft Flight Simulator for Windows 95. I was amazed to see that such a simulation was possible. Needless to say I spent the entire day on my computer. I had found my second love. Flight Simulator turned out to be a good introduction to the world of flight. To this day it is still a useful learning tool as well as a way to have fun.

.....In the fall of year 2000, I was accepted into Embry-Riddle and one year later my flight career began. The school's flight program is operated under the Code of Federal Regulations Part 141. This means that it has a mandatory FAA approved syllabus to follow. The program accelerated me through my training. Just two and a half years after my first flight, I had already obtained my Commercial Pilot Certificate, with an Instrument Rating, my Certificated Flight Instructor Airplane certification, and Certificated Flight Instructor Instrument certification. (These certificates are described in the Flight Lessons portion of this website)

.....I am now a Senior at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, a Freelance Instructor at the Falcon Flight Center in Daytona Beach Florida, and the Eagles Flight Team Vice President. Three years at college have certainly passed quickly and I suspect this last year will be gone in no time.

.....My short term goals include getting an internship with any major carrier, regional carrier, or with any charter company. After the internship, I hope to continue flight instructing until I have enough hours to fly for a charter or regional airline.

.....If there is one thing I love to do, aside from flying, it's helping others. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask me. I am happy to answer any questions and help you in any way possible.

.....Thats all I have for now but revisit this page every now and then as I will likely have updates for it in the future.
