What has this new generation of OHRers done?  Have they forgot what OHRRPGCE was originally trying to emulate? Have they forgot OHRRPGCE's original purpose?  Read in between the lines for a second. OHRRPGCE. OHRRPGCE.  Yes, OHR RPG CE.

James has made this wonderful engine for creating RPGs.  He soon added a marvelous featurette called PlotScripting. What was it for? An add-on to your RPG.  Minigames and such.  But what is it used for now? More than that! But is that good? Take a look.  People now are making games just for the sake of "pushing the limits" and have no real intention of making an epic game.  Wow. YER PUSHING THA LIMITS MAAAAN! I'm so gonna play your game. Reminds me of the current ongoing battle for best graphics in a 3D game where developers spend more time on the graphics itself.

Actually, this is not bad at all. Just if you think about it for a fraction of a second. But think again.  This problem has blinded everyone (in CP at least).  I ,here standing on the outside looking in, see a big mistake.  I just recently got back to CP and checked on the ratings.  Guess what guys? What rpg has the highest grade (A+)? A SIDESCROLLER! I laugh.  So, I expect, This must be a REALLLY good sidescroller to beat those b+ rpgs.  Booo. This game was a No.  Sure, it is a Striking PlotScript.  But that's all it is. One big plotscript.  A game? No.  One big plotscript.  A few text boxes jammed into there last minute.  And what does it get? An A+.  And does any other raters out there care? No. It gets an A+.

We are doing things OHRRPGCE wasn't meant to do. Sure a sidescroller is cool and all. Sure an alternate battle system is cool.  We sometime even have the urge to move to another engine because we think the OHR is weak. No! See, it is not weak- it is powerful.  We make it weak.  By creating an alternative battle system, we make it weak.  We are not utilizing it's own built in system.  We are ignoring it's in-engine power.  In fact, the battle system is the OHR's most important function as an RPG maker.

If you create an alternative battle system, you are wasting your time.  Stop using OHR and move onto another engine system that was designed to create alternative battle systems (ie. GameMaker).  You will find yourself with a lot more resources and commands at your disposal.  Why? Because those engines were Meant to have other styles.

To unleash the powers of the OHR, you must use it as a whole.  You must squeeze all the juice out of it.  In a sense, you can make a sidescroller minigame.  But making it the game is wasting the OHR's potential.  PlotScripting is only supposed to be part of OHR; it is only a function of a whole unit.

However, it is also great we get one of those "let's-all-have-a-break" games where the game is full of wackiness and plotscripted fun. Yea, that'd be good for once in a while guys. So stop the project you are working right now and ask yourself if you are really making a game meant for the OHR.  Try to make a over-the-border-awesomeness-plotscripting-game and someone will try to beat it.  And by that happening, the loop will keep repeating itself         and there are no buffer overflows in real life.
