for pics
Colin
Will - Tectaloy Ford Thunderbird
- Last
ran at the 2000 Nationals, after purchasing a brand-new PSI hat for the
car. Ran a personal best 6.66 at 211 mph. Owner of Willpower chassis, in
Adelaide, has been concentrating on business ever since. Has built a Ford
ute for son, Tom, and will compete in BB/AP. The car is currently up for
sale.
Andrew
Searle - Ford Customline
- Has
won many championship events, including Nationals and Winternationals titles,
and various other meetings. Has run in the 6.20's on many occasions, with
a best ever e.t of 6.25. Andrew is also pilot of his brothers raceboat.
Very competitive team, watch for some good results this coming season.
John
Zappia - HQ Monaro
- A familiar
name in the history of blown doorslammers, the newest version of Zap's Rat
has already turned heads running 6.25 on debut at Kwinana in 2003. Is one
of the first racers to compete in Doorslammer when introduced, with times
in the 6.4 second range at over 210 mph in his old monaro. Has the experience,
a great sponsor on board being SouthSide Engine Centre, watch this car become
a championship contender in seasons to come.
Ben
Bray - 57 Chev
- Son
of Top Doorslammer pioneer Victor Bray, Ben is the current Australian Top
Doorslammer Champion. Is the youngest ever Australian champion, at just
19 years of age. Has won back to back Nationals titles, can he make it a
hat trick in 2003 ? Won the westernationals, tin tops and was runner up
at the Winternationals to his dad. Is one of only 4 racers in Australia
to run into the 6.0 second range, with a p.b. 6.09 at 234 mph. Will be stepping
out of Doorslammer next season, with the purchase of an Alcohol Funnycar
from the USA, which will be campaigned here.
Brett
Stevens - Studebaker
- Top
Doorslammer and Top Bike racer Brett Stevens has proven he can run with
the quickest, in his Jack Daniels Stude. Is another racer to run into the
quick 6.0 second range, also with a 6.09 at 236 mph, at Kwinana, W.A. With
new paint this season on what sure is a trick looking car, watch for the
team to run quicker than ever in the increasingly competitive bracket of
Top Doorslammer.
Wayne
Price - Ford Mercury
- This
beautiful merc is one gorgeous looking car. The pic you see above is when
the car debuted at the Winternationals last season, however touched the
wall on the burnout causing some damage, which has since been fixed. The
paint scheme has changed, with the airbrush soon to go over the car to finish
off the bodywork. The car will be assembled by next month, with only afew
little things needed to be done in order to start licensing. The team will
be private testing the car shortly. With what was already a grouse looking
car, the merc would no doubt now be considered by some as " deluxe
". Once sorted this car will be on the pace.
Dave
Simpson - Ford Falcon
- Dave
has sat the last couple of seasons out, with work commitments keeping him
busy. Has run 222 mph with the Ford, with a perosonal best e.t. of 6.50
seconds.
Lucky
Belleri - 68 Camaro
- The
newest Camaro doorslammer to hit the track, built by Murray Anderson, of
Anderson race Cars. The team will be heading up to the Nationals with Steve
Stanic driving, and soon to share the driving duties will be Lucky's son,
Mark. The team was at Heathcote in a private testing session last week,
with Stanic driving. Steve powered the car to a 7.1 second pass at 195 mph.
Neat looking car with all the good gear, the team will be competing at every
round at WSID, and Willowbank.
Les
Winter - 55 Chev
- Unfortunately,
afew cars are finding it difficult to keep up with the pace of Doorslammer.
Les Winter has made the move across to Supercharged Outlaws, in which has
seen him become reasonably successful, going afew rounds and winning the
season opener last season. Has run in the 6.30 second range with the wild
fridge.
Victor
Bray - 57 chev
- Victor
Bray, the pioneer of Doorslammer racing in Australia. Victor has shown the
way in competition since the inception of Doorslammer, with 6 Australian
Doorslammer championships under his belt. Recently became the first alcohol
doorslammer racer in the world to run a 240 mph pass, with a huge 245 mph
blast. Has held countless Australian and world e.t and mph records, and
now with son Ben racing, the Castrol team keep getting stronger and stronger.
Rob
Broadbent - Holden Statesman
- Rob
had campaigned the car for a while with a Mcgee engine in it, before recently
swapping over to a Sainty powerplant. The car came out with the new engine
at last seasons Tin Top titles, and ran acouple of 7.0 second passes at
low mph, obviously still sorting the new powerplant. Watch for the Aussie
banana team to lay down some good passes shortly.
Cameron
and Tony Brooks - 63 Corvette
- After
campaigning their AA / AP beretta for afew seasons, the decision was made
to step up into doorslammer, with a new 63 split window corvette, built
by Anderson race cars. Cameron drove the beretta to bests of 6.50's at over
210 mph. The debut of the Corvette came at the 2000 Nationals, where shakedown
passes were made. The car has done exhibition passes at the Australian Grand
Prix since, but has not made a return to the track.
Alf
Sorbello - HSV Clubsport
- Alf,
the owner of Alfy's Prestige Smash repairs, last made passes in the car
in 2001. He was involved in a serious car accident, and has taken time out
of the seat to fully recover. Hopefully we'll see this car back on track
in the near future.
Mick
and Shane Elcoate - 41 Willy's
- This
41 Willy's coupe has been around for a while, with Shane driving it to the
top qualifiers position at the 1999 Nationals, with a 6.38 second pass.
The car was campaigned in the seasons after this, however the car has since
been sold to Chris Wicks, who also owns Jeff Burnett's old record holding
altered. Shane drove the car at the Winternationals acouple of years ago,
however a bad blower explosion put the car out of racing. The car has not
been out since.
Maurice
Fabietti - CV8 Monaro
- Fabietti,
the of Fabietti Race Engines, has been around drag racing for a long time.
His previous car was a Pontiac trans Am, which competed in the AA / AP class
of Competition Eliminator, running in the 6.4's. The Trans Am body was sold,
the chassis lengthened and the Monaro shell placed on it. Fab had run a
personal best of 6.29 at over 225 mph before the car hit the wall at the
season ending Winternationls, causing major damage. However, the car has
since been repaired, and Fab is returning to this years Nationals, only
afew weeks away now.
Peter
Gratz - Dodge Daytona
- The
big meeting specialist, has now retired from competition. At one stage held
the world record with a pass of 229 mph. The car had run into the 6.20's,
as had his 57 chev before a horrific fire at Willowbank destroyed it. Peter
now crews with Gary Phillips on the Lucas Oil Top Alky dragster, and doorslammer.
Paul
Greghini - Holden Statesman
- Paul
Greghini, of Adelaide, has campaigned his statesman for sfew seasons now
in AA / AP, however has plans to step up into Doorslammer. Has run into
the 6.70's at over 200 mph in AA / AP configuration, although has a new
setup to go fast in Doorslammer.
Steve
Harker - T/A, and 68 Camaro doorslammer
- Harker
had recently ordered a 68 camaro off Murray Anderson, however a short time
ago the sale of the camaro now sees it in the hands of USA engine guru,
Brad Anderson. Harker is still competing in the USA with his Top Alcohol
Funnycar, where he has reached afew finals. Holds the Australian Top Alcohol
Funnycar record, which is a 5.82 at 254 mph.
Robin
Judd - Studebaker
- Robin
Judd, the first ever doorslammer in Australia, and the world, to run into
the 6.1 second range, with a 6.17 pass. Has since added a PSI to the car,
and is going quicker. Has made Nationals final, and many other big meeting
finals before. After coming back from a mid track fire at Willowbank 2 years
ago, the team struggled for a while, however are now well and truly back
on track. Has recently made passes of 6.15 / 236 mph, and are sure to be
up there in the points again this season.
Peter
Kapiris - Studebaker.
- Is
currently Australia's quickest Doorslammer racer, being the first to crack
into the 6.0 second range with a 6.07, however has since run as quick as
6.06, and most recently a 6.05 / 235 mph, at Willowbank, QLD. Has a bunch
of new parts, new paint courtesy of Xtreme Designs and Matty Egan, and will
be raring to go this season. Has the edge over everyone else, however only
time will tell if it remains the same this coming season. Is a hot tip to
be the first Aussie doorslammer racer into the 5 second range. With the
new Willowbank surface, anything is possible. Was the first person to break
Victor Bray's streak of championships, in 2002.
Tony
Defelice - 68 Camaro
- Tony
campaigned this nitrous assisted 55 chev doorslammer for afew years during
the mid 90's, while the car never showed its true potential. Being the only
doorslammer racer at the time running the nitrous setup, he has decided
to join the blown brigade by ordering a new 68 camaro off Murray Anderson.
The engine has been supplied by Victor Bray, and the car wouldn't be too
far away from being completed. The car will debut this coming season.
Wayne
and Lisa Keys - CV8 Monaro
- Keys,
a well known racer from W.A, campaigned a Supergas Torana before stepping
up into AA / AP with a blown BMW around four years ago. Keys created history,
as he was in the first side by side 200 mph altered production race with
Grant O'Rourke and his torana. In his last season with the Tectaloy beemer,
Wayne top qualified at the Winternationals, running a 6.27, which would
have top qualified in Top Doorslammer. Now with the new Monaro body on,
the car has run in the low 6.40's on many an occasion, with no doubt the
car will go alot quicker.
Dave
and Barb Koop - 55 chev
- Easily
one of the best presented Doorslammers on the circuit before a major fire
late last year at Kwinana Motorplex saw the car extensively damaged. Had
just signed with a new major sponsor, being Delphi, and were really starting
to get ontop of their tune. We hope to see dave and Bard back racing in
the Koop De Ville slammer in the near future. Personal best time of 6.38
/ 215 mph.
Kym
Petterwood - 63 Corvette
- The
Lifestyle Australia slammer has had some success, since Kym stepped up from
Pro - Stock afew years back. Won a meeting while in his first season, and
has run quick. After a mishap at the Gold Coast indy 500 last year, the
team are just starting to get back into the thick of things. However, recent
reports say that the car is currently up for sale. Best e.t of 6.200 at
the 2002 nationals, held at Willowbank.
Sarkis
Brothers - 57 Chev
- Steve
and Alen have been campaigning acouple of Centura's for some time now, in
the Pro Street category. While the Agro 1 centura has run in the 6.70's
at over 210 mph, their newest car, being the 57 chev is set to debut at
the Nationals, only afew weeks away now. The powerplant has been provided
by Victor Bray, and also run by Victor, in which he won the Winternationals
with the Sarkis boys' engine. No doubt some strong numbers will be produced
this season.
Marcus
Chambers - HQ Monaro
- The
team from Rochester, Victoria, have been running in Doorslammer for afew
years now. Most of last season was spent refreshing the car and obtaining
considerable amounts of new parts. Went all the way to the final at the
Kwinana Doorslammer round early last season, and ended up beating Victor
Bray in the final, for his maiden victory in the class. Has run a personal
best of 6.58 at over 215 mph.
Lindsay
Murray - VS Ute
- W.A
Doorslammer racer, has spent the last 2 seasons out of racing, with other
commitments. Has runn a personal best in the 6.60's at 210 mph.
Grant
O'Rourke - HK Monaro
- One
of W.A's quickest doorslammers, the team have run quick, however have struck
problems in eliminations. Top qualified at the 2003 Nationals with a 6.15
second blast, however got out of shape in the first round. Is the quickest
car to the 60 ft timers in the whole of Australia, and once they get thru
the early rounds, watch for this team to make the finals. It's only a matter
of time before Grant is up with the front runners in the championship.
Gary
Phillips - Studebaker
- Multiple
Top Alcohol Dragster champ, Phillips has also added the doorslammer to his
team. Has been successful, making many finals in his short doorslammer career.
Is also another of the four drivers to dip into the 6.0 second frame, with
a 6.09 at 235 mph. Has the experience and knowledge to go even quicker,
watch for the Lucas Oils stude to become dominant in the seasons ahead.
Joe
Schembri - FC Holden
- Has
been running into the high 6 second range at 200 mph in Outlaws the past
season. Are stepping up into Doorslammer this season needing a little more
horsepower on tap.
Anguel
Athanasov - Commodore
- Hasn't
run in the past couple of seasons, however has been testing of late. Personal
bests of 7.1 at 195 mph plus.
Lui
