A Scout Troop is divided up into "Patrols" of about 6 scouts,
each one headed by a Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. The St Lucia
Scout Troop only has one Patrol at the moment, because a whole group of PLs and
APLs recently went up to Venturers. There has been so much shuffling round that
we have ended up with two PLs, but no APLs have been appointed. Scouts include:
Charles Hudson (Senior PL), George Prentice (PL), Elliot DeFina, Micheal
Zaghini, James Foley, Allks Atrens, William Story and Luke Zaghini.
Officially our Scout Leader is Falcon, but he can't turn up so often that
in practice, our Group Leader, Roo, holds that position!
Falcon.
The Scout Association is always holding activities and competitions among
troops etc., that often include testing of general Scouting skills, mapping,
compass, first aid and knotting/construction. The St Lucia Scout Troop has a
long history of successes in this area, for instance, in the Top Ten Patrols
out of 150 from all around the South-East corner of Queensland in the
competition "Butterfly" in 1991 and 1994, and winning the NightHawk
competition (of about 1000 scouts) in 1996!
Although now and then we are quite successful competition wise (and so
skill wise), in actual fact we aren't very competitive and if we have a group
of new scouts, we know that we may not be able to do as well as we have, and
just have a lot of fun. (We did that in NightHawk '97 and still did well! Read
about that in this report by James Foley.)
