THE CAROLINA PARAKEET
Description:
- Small, about 30cm long and weight 280gram.
- Mostly green, the crown of the head and around the eyes and bill are
orange.
- Yellow head and next.
- Pointed tail.
Diet:
- Grass, maple, elm, pine and cocklebur.
- Seeds of apple, peach, mulberry, pecan, grape, dogwood and grains.
- They were also feeding off mineral-rich soil.
- In captivity, they were fed canary grass seed, hemp, maize, oats and
breadcrumbs.
How it became extinct:
- Rapid cultivation of North America.
- Large flocks were killed because they destroy harvests of fruit farmers.
