NOTE: We are having a temporary problem with our web site provider. This site is temporary. The pop ups up are not our advertisements, nor are they affiliated with our company in any way. We hope to resolve this problem as soon as possible.
Stage OneNOTE: Our testing process is designed to screen teachers and eliminate unsuitable applicants. Even if you start teaching at the basic level, you will have free access to training programs and the opportunity for advancement. In general, only one in twenty are accepted to teach at the advanced level. If you feel you have what it takes, give it your best shot! If you are not accepted, you may re-apply after three months.
1) Print and mail your application to Tutors Unlimited.
2) If chosen, you will receive a telephone call from Tutors Unlimited informing you that your application has been accepted and a test will be emailed to you.
3) The test will include three levels; basic, intermediate, and advanced. To teach, you are only required to complete the basic test. If you would like to teach at the intermediate or advanced level, you may also do more. Regardless of your level, everyone is required to do the basic level test. If you are applying for an executive level position, you will be required to do all three tests.
4) Once you are finished your test page will give you an email adress to send your test to. The test page will also include the office address, phone number, date and the time of your interview.
5) You need to call the office number and either inform a staff member or leave a message confirming the date and time you were given. Also leave your phone number and name. When you leave a message, your appointment be confirmed. Unfortunately we don't have time to confirm every appointment with a callback. Your message will serve as the official confirmation.
6) During the interview, we encourage questions from applicants. Other information for your interview will be included with the test you are sent. You may be given a small written test during your interview. Stage two1) Once you have been accepted to qualify for a teaching position, you will be given an invitation to sit in with a T.U. teacher. You will be required to watch two classes. You may also take part.
2) Prior to the classes, you will pick up the official T.U. text book and cassette/CD. You'll have a chance to review it before the classes.
3) Once you have sat in on two classes, the final step will be to teach your own class with a T.U. teacher present. 4) Stage two is non-paying and may be completed within one to three days. The total time is approximately 3 hours. Stage Three1) You are now ready to start teaching. Students may now be referred to you. When we get a request for a tutor, we will match the student's time frame, location, and level with yours. If everything matches, we'll contact you and give you the student's phone number. You may then call the student and determine a meeting place for the first class. 2) The place you meet your student should be your regular meeting location. If you only want a few students, you may go to their home or an area close to them. However, if you would like more students, we recommend one location for students to meet you. This is your choice. Most international students prefer a location near the Yonge Subway line. (Preferred meeting locations and maps will be provided to tutors teaching in the U.S. or overseas.)
3) During the first class, you'll need to confirm all times and location(s) with your student. You and the student are welcome to change times and locations as long as you both agree. You may not cancel a session with your student more than three times during your contract with them. A student must call you 24 hours in advance to cancel and re-schedule a class. Otherwise the class is considered paid for. You should explain this to your student on the first day. A student may not cancel more than three times, unless agreed to by the teacher.
4)The student will be required to pay the full amount for all sessions at the end of the first class (this is not an evaluation session). Tutors Unlimited will receive 20% of the total. It is the responsiblity of the teacher to pay Tutors Unlimited within three days.
5) Your rates will be higher if you have more students and also if you advance to another level. Please refer to the price card on this web site for more information.
Stage Four1) During the first three months of teaching at the basic level, teachers may request up to 5 students a day or may teach a maximum of three students per session. Most students begin with the 15 hour set package. If the teacher requests full-time hours and is not satisfied with the amount of salary, some considerations may be made.
2) After three months or 45 hours of teaching experience with T.U., the teacher may request a new test and/or training for the next level. Upon passing the test, the teacher's price and status will advance.
3) After six months or 100 hours of teaching experience with T.U., and upon completion of all three levels of testing, the teacher may request to enter the "An Evening with (teacher's name)" business program. This program is not by the hour, but starts from $100 to $300+ for the night. For information on this program, please refer to our home page or ask your interviewer if you have any questions. Teachers may also be eligible for training to teach one of our courses.
For teachers chosen to tutor on contract overseas, airfare and accommodations will be supplied.
