Applicants accepted to work for Tutors Unlimited will have the opportunity to learn how to teach English to people from around the World!
Most of our clients prefer private one-on-one lessons. These may be at their homes, their offices, in our classes, or at central locations such as a public library. Sometimes you may teach a family or a group of business associates or friends. Class bookings are usually given to our tutors who have at least 30 hours of teaching experience.
Opportunities are part-time, full-time, and seasonal. Please specify on your application how many hours a week you'd like to teach, and the dates and times when you would be available. Rates of pay vary, depending upon the teacher's experience, with the entry-level rate being $15 per hour. For our price listings and levels, see below.
We provide the best private tutors across Ontario. New applicants will get training by sitting in as a teacher's assistant. After taking part in some classes, you will lead your first session with one of our qualified teachers. After this, we will book your students.
Tutors Unlimited offers classes and one-on-one tutoring. We have multiple skill-areas, offering an integrated approach covering grammar and writing, reading and vocabulary, and listening and speaking.
Tutors Unlimited methods promote English language proficiency through a diversified curriculum, including community outings, cooperative learning, and individualized instruction. Student success, as measured by test scores and skill-appraisal, demonstrates the association between certified methods and student language needs. We supply all the materials, and we also sell our own English textbook, cassette, and videotape instructional series.
No experience is needed to apply; however, applicants should have an above average level of reading, writing, and spoken English.
BASIC LEVEL
Teaching people who are new to the country basic reading skills, writing, and speaking. You may explain how to travel around the city, shop at a grocery store, restaurant etiquette, etc. While a B.A. is preferred, we will interview secondary school students for this level. Pay is between $15 to $20 per hour depending on your experience.
INTERMEDIATE LEVEL
This is for international students and people who have basic grammar, conversation, and general literacy skills. Beyond the classes, you may also take them to a university to apply, help them with a job application, etc. Pay is between $15 and $30 depending on your experience.
ADVANCED LEVEL
There are four areas for this level:
1) Advanced pronunciation for business, performance, and/or eliminating an accent.
2) Business English. From helping write a business plan to interviews, job skills, and management training, we have helped clients raise capital and start and run their own businesses in North America!
3) Executive English: This may involve taking a senior businessperson from abroad and acclimating him or her to their new city to helping a foreign diplomat write and rehearse speeches and presentations.
4) Advanced English: Are you fluent with verb conjugations, noun declensions, subjunctives, double infinitives, enclitics, and verb inflections? What about the advanced aspects of grammar?
Pay is from $50 per hour, depending on your area or areas of expertise, experience, and the contract with your client. While we prefer a specialty, MBA, or PhD, we will interview university students.
Do you have another skill? Can you teach Spanish, French, Korean, Russian, or another language? High computer skills? Were you a physics major? A black belt in Karate? While our main focus is on English, if you feel you have the skills and experience to teach something else, let us know. We offer students a chance to learn new skills through our other departments.
