Some great dog-related sites we have found

IF YOU DON'T OWN A DOG, AT LEAST ONE, THERE IS NOT NECESSARILY ANYTHING WRONG WITH YOU, BUT THERE MAY BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH YOUR LIFE.

SECOND CHANCE COMPANIONS Many of you are familiar with Kecia Mclaughlin who has done an amazing job placing dogs in new homes.  This is her favorite organization, and we here at Dogpatch are proud to say that any friend of Kecias is a friend of ours as well.  Please, Please visit this link if you are looking for a new companion. Forward it to anyone who is thinking of adopting.  They work with the owners and foster the dogs maximizing a successful match. Ask Bentley about how successful this program is.  This is Match.com for dogs and potential "parents"

ANIMEALS ON WHEELS (through FIDO, which is also a great organization) or through second chance companions This may possibly be my favorite cause.  What a great idea...send out pet food with the Meals on Wheels program. Helping our Honored Citizens maintain the companionship and joy of their beloved pets. In many cases this program has been instrumental in keeping the pets with their owners in difficult housing arrangements.  Growing old can at times be lonesome, but then to not be able to keep your pet would be unthinkable. I can think of few causes more worthy of your compassionate donations.

CHASE AWAY CANINE CANCER I hate to say out loud the reason that this link hits close to home.  Afraid, like the Native Americans, that by invoking the names of evil spirits I will cause them to visit again.  Jaxson, Jake, Hildy,Chase, Maddy.... This organization is one that we as responsible, loving dog lovers need to get behind.  Click on the link and read the story of Cera and Chase.  Then, support this cause anyway you can.  This Organization, along with Second Chance Companions and Animeals will be the recipients of all charitable donations coming from Dogpatch.  Watch for my Newsletters on this years sponsored events.

Project Pooch   For over a decade Project pooch has paired youths from Maclaren Youth Correctional facility with shelter and rescue dogs.  They learn to train and use positive reinforcement and behavior modification.  As the trainers manage their dogs they learn how to manage their own behavior.  Every POOCH dog completes the AKC good Citizenship certificate and is then placed for adoption into a forever home.  Check this one out.

Kelley Callicoat  A Northwest artist with a true talent for capturing the personality.  Hopefully The Resort will soon be the home to one of her paintings.

Stephen Huneck Gallery  A wonderful site with the most unbelievable artwork.  Also be sure to surf his Dog Chapel. A must for lab lovers, but everyone should visit this one.

Rubi at HealNW for Massage  I mentioned Rubi in my most recent Newsletter.  She is giving clinics for owners on how to massage, as well as offering massage therapy for your dogs at various locations in the Portland area.  This young lady really has a great touch, (Cooper was hypnotized by her) and you all know how I feel about the benefits of daily massage for your dog. I'm excited about what she has to offer...check it out.

VIP Pet Transport  Sandy at VIP knows how to cut through all the red tape that the airlines are throwing at us these days for shipping pets.  She also is knows which airlines to use to make the trip as easy and as comfortable as possible for both you and your pet.  I would recommend her to anyone needing to relocate.

Blue Ribbon Scooper   If anyone would know the ultimate scooper, its me.  I tried flingers, baggers, composters, rakes, shovels, buckets you name it, I would try anything to make this job easier.  The bucket and shovel method, with 10 dogs following me around wondering what I was up to made it a little more challenging than I liked dealing with. This tool is worth its weight in gold to me.  I actually do not use the bagging feature, since I deposit the collection in a special treatment area although I did try it out with the bags when I first got it.  You have to try this one. Not gimicky it really works, and doesn't damage the grass.

Magic Snacks!!!  Cooper will eat anything, but these treats passed Tangos tests.  Organic, pesticide free hand made.  Motto is "If you wouldn't eat it, then neither should your dog"  oops got to go, Cooper is eating, well he's eating something I wouldn't.  Never mind that, these treats still are stocked at dopatch...give them a try; your dog already has.

Get Squirrelly!!!!  Handmade treats for dogs * Made with wholesome ingredients & love* Contact Julie at getsquirrellytreats@hotmail.com   I met her and Lucy one evening while waiting for a pick up in the Pearl district.  Julie and Lucys story..." Lucy recently survived a serious battle with cancer.  At almost 13, she went through two major surgeries - with flying colors! Her strength and positive attitude was an inspiration to me - and from that came the desire to do something in her honor. For several years now, I have been baking healthy, organic dog biscuits from very wholesome ingredients.  Recently, I created a small business and have begun to sell them to local shops and doggie day cares - but not just anyone!  I only create partnerships with those I believe are in the pet business for the right reason - not the money, but the dogs."   You might have to search these treats out...but I bet both you and your dog will be glad you did.

Motel 6 Lets hear it for Motel 6...maybe not fancy but ALL are pet friendly

The Bark... The modern dog culture magazine.  I have loved this magazine forever...initially intrigued by its motto:  Dog is my Co-Pilot.

City Dog Magazine  Celebrating Life with Dog in the Pacific Northwest.  Love this magazine, love the site as much or maybe more.

BeBop USA    All Products Made in Gresham Oregon, benefits abused and unwanted animals, unconditional gurantee. Great leashes and safe collars.

Dogstew pet food  Rick Woodford started this company after his dog was diagnosed with lymphoma.  Not having any luck with raw diet he developed this dogstew.  Rick donates his soup stock to Dove Lewis for use with their ailing dogs.  He tailors the recipes to your dogs special dietary requirements and to your lifestyle.  His is one of the companys with conscience that Dogpatch likes to reccommend.  Check him out.

Portland Pooch All things dog in this most dog-friendly city in the Country.  They even have 19 listings of dog-friendly restaurants...have to check that out
