Information on books: Daniel HC Chew (2006), Driven Away by Purpose (2nd Ed.), Xulon Press.
Book description: The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren has taken the world by storm, with many churches taking part in programs such as the 40 Days of Purpose to study the book. Now years later, the controversy over Rick Warren and his teachings still rages. Meanwhile, Rick Warren has become ever more famous, with the unfolding of his P.E.A.C.E. plan to help the war-ravaged nation of Rwanda, and opportunities to address meetings of highly influential people. In this book, Mr. Daniel Chew examines the Purpose Driven phenomenon through the Purpose Driven Life in light of Scripture. He also evaluates Abanes' defense of Rick Warren and his teachings, and various other actions taken by Rick Warren since. Through all this, Daniel exposes an insidious web of deceit and compromise, and sounds a clarion call to the Church to repent of her compromise and hearken to the biblical standard of doctrinal purity. Chapters: Acknowledgement ..............................................................................ix "This is a solid expose [of the Purpose Driven paradigm] from the Reformed viewpoint. Daniel's analysis is penetrating,
comprehensive and Reformed. He demonstrates that he has a good knowledge of the Holy Scriptures. I highly recommend this book to anyone who sees nothing wrong with The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren! Daniel pulls no punches nor does not he minces his words" Driven Away By Purpose from Daniel Chew is a very helpful and welcome resource in combating this current apostasy being spread throughout evangelicalism by Rick Warren's The Purpose-Driven Life.
Chew not only thoroughly analyzes the flaws within Warren's perversion of the genuine Gospel of Jesus Christ but he also attacks the twisted Arminianism at its root.
I have no doubt I will refer to it often in my own research.
This book is by its very nature reactionary, that is, fault finding. This may not generate popular acclaim, but it is right to sensitize the discerning reader to the lurking dangers inherent in the Purpose Driven Movement by Rick Warren. It is a helpful contribution to teach all of us to read carefully and not give every popular book the nod of approval. Brother Daniel demonstrates effectively that wrong practices have their roots in doctrinal errors. May God use this book to alert many to take the Bible seriously and use it as the ultimate measure for truth in all we believe and practice.
