1965 Mercury Comet Washer Resevoir
I purchased a washer resevoir similar to this one on eBay - but it was far too nice to hide under the hood! It was originally a plastic window washer fulid resevoir with a black plastic top. Barely visible is the "Mercury Man" head raised on the top surface of the tank. I initially thought I would use this as a radiator fluid overflow tank, but then realized that very few people would even notice! So I decided to clean it up and make and cupholder console out of it.
Resevoir Attached to Console
I purchased a standard plastic console at the local auto parts store. The resevoir was spray painted black, then the emblem was brushed silver (with modeling paint). The lower section of the resevoir was removed to shorten it enough to fit under the dash. The unit was then attached with sheet metal screws to the consule. The consule had to be trimmed a little with a utility knife to fit the dmensions of the tank.
Completed Cupholder
The console was finished by taping 1/16th inch black neoprene to the bottom ot the unit to provide a "no slip" surface. The console now sits securley on the transmission hump and provides a nice place to strore change, phone, sun glasses, etc. To return to the previous page, click on the back button on your browser.
