PERFECT STABILITY Impeccable control and behaviour. The steering precision, the quality of the braking system, the suspension architecture and the most sophisticated electronic systems guarantee total stability. FRONT PARALLEL ARM SUSPENSION The front parallel arm suspension, derived from F1 is exclusive to category the Alfa 147 is found in. It ensures the best possible use of the tires on any bend by keeping the wheel always perfectly perpendicular to the road. McPHERSON REAR SUSPENSION McPherson type independent wheel suspension is mounted at the rear, with transverse rods of different lengths connected to an aluminium cross member, reaction rods, non-aligned helical springs and stabilizing bar with spherical joints, connected to the shock absorber. BRAKING SYSTEM The power-assisted hydraulic braking system on the Alfa 147, mounts self-ventilating oversized front discs and full disc with free caliper at the rear. The result is efficient, light braking, also due to the over-sized servo brake. SELESPEED TRANSMISSION Drive Alfa 147, 156 and Sportwagon without your hands off the steering wheel and with your eyes fixed on the road ahead. The sequential transmission derived from F1 has controls on the steering wheel. To change gear, there are simply two paddles:- one on the right to move up through the gears, and one on the left to move down a gear. The tunnel lever and automatic City function add convenient for driving in traffic. PASSIVE SAFETY The crumple-resistant passenger cabin is conceived as a survival cell. For maximum safety it is protected by anti-penetration bars and planned deformability reinforcements to absord collisions. A sophisticated electronic control unit operate the passive safety devices: there are 6 airbags as standard on the Alfa 147. Two at the front on the driver and passenger side(that can be disabled), two side bags built into the front seats, two windows bags providing lateral protection for the occupants heads.
