The Battle River Watershed

The Battle River Watershed covers much of central Alberta (see map).  The Battle River itself is a modest prairie-fed  (as opposed to glacier-fed) river.  There is increasing pressure on the Battle River’s water supply.

As demand for water meets or exceeds the river’s natural supply, social, ecological and economic limitations and issues begin to arise.

Management Planning Process

Water management planning can help resolve water supply and demand issues.

Alberta Environment has recently started working with local stakeholders to develop recommendations for managing water in the Battle River watershed.  These recommendations will be used to help develop a Water Management Plan for the Battle River.

Learn more ... have your say

In the fall 2005, watershed residents will be invited to comment on draft water management options for the Battle River.

In the meantime, learn about the data and knowledge that is being collected on the Battle River, and how it is being used in the planning process.
