A Burning Passion for Homeless Youth

So I leave the comforts of my home, keep my full time job and set out to accomplish a goal I have had since I was a child. Become homeless in Seattle. As a Christian and youth leader my love for homeless youth has become a burning passion in my heart. For 2 1/2 years I left the convinience of a shower, a house a place to sleep and the idea of eating whenever I wanted to a life surrounded by dirt, filth, rats, cochroaches, drugs, drama, sex and well, the world. My goal, I wanted to love and accept those whose lifes had been abandoned and filled with the dissapointments of life, the outcasts, runaways and foster kids. The abused, raped, drug and alchohol victims. To show them the love of Christ. To be a friend when they had no friends. It was not an easy task nor was it anything I expected. When I was 19 I first started going to Capital hill in Seattle and fed the homeless as I walked down the streets with a group part of the Union Gospel Mission. Friday after friday would pass and all I saw was the same thing over and over. I never really saw anybody really want us to pray for them, I never saw change, I never saw kids get saved and delivered and off of the streets. It was a drive-by love. I sought how Jesus lived His life. He was very much like the homeless but He offered hope and eternal life. He traveled around with the disciples and stayed here and there. He humbled himself to talk to those who needed Gods love. These kids were into drugs, alcohol, prostitution, violence and full of self-hatred. They were running from there life and filling voids and numb places in there hearts with drugs. I endured harship, pain, drama, struggles and I myself became very desperate for God. My story begins in Seattle and then I went to California before I ended it back in Seattle. My journey will continue to Oregon shortly. I hope this site will help anyone who reads it to better understand homeless people and youth.
