            At the helm of Fancy we set Capt. Avery

For there was only one just so ripe and unsavory

            He’ll have your gold or he’ll have your slavery

We all learned to respect Capt. Avery

In 1695 we, Avery’s crew

Set sail the ocean blue

This credo was all we knew:

For a time we had some fun

We stopped in the Caribbean and took on some rum

To save face, the crown said we were

“Outside the acts of grace”

We met with Capt. Tew and his fine crew

With these Americans all our lots we drew, Yea

In a far sea, they call Red

            Upon the sons of Mohammed, we lay dread

Many a Meccan pilgrim were made dead

Their daughters we loved and their men we slew

Not since then and not before

            Has there ever been quite such a score

In all these years and with all our crew
