Six Flags Great America Frightfest Trip Report

Frightfest 10/27/02
Left for the park around 11:00am or noon(not sure cuz of the whole hour back thing). Got to the park in 29 mins, a new record! The parking lot was pretty full but the back lot was still open. Parked in lot 41 again and made a trek to the entrance, this time prepared with gloves but not enough layers of clothing.
The line to get in was pretty long but seemed to go quickly. I still have no clue why people have such a tough time getting through the metal detectors? The baby strollers are also annoying because the idiots who operate them don't know how to.
Headed for Tripple Play which had no line at all. It also had a money shot of Batman's track layout from a cool angle. I used to love this ride as a kid and it still is a blast to ride. Not sure why I keep forgetting about this one everytime I go.
Headed to Deja Vu next since this ride ALWAYS acts up later on in the day. This was not the case today, since its nemesis Vertical Velocity was having issues. The line queue was full on Deja Vu but only took an hour, even though the sign said 2 1/2 hours, so that was a relief. Rode in the back seat.
Went on the Demon next which was only a 20 min wait. The ride operator looked like he was high or something, creepy. I also noticed (I think) that the waterfall was off before the corkscrew.
Went to the American Eagle next (as recommended, thanks again intamin 101 and to coasterlove for posting the e-mail about next weekend) and It was about an hour and a half wait, which was ok since they were only running the backward side. WOW, was a totally incredible ride!!! The trim breaks were turned off which made the mid-course helix a wicked experience! Going backwards made this even more intense, I think I was actually screaming at one point cuz it was so cool.
Headed to Batman next, the line was insanely long, including the Fast Lane Pass line, but went ok since there were no breakdowns.
Decided to finally check out Necropolis this time and they did a great job decorating it again. There were a lot of new effects there this year like tents that were set up, I think one was a freak show one. I had 5 monsters or whatever jump out at me and scare me which was 5 too many.
Went on the Whil-i-gig next. Swing rides rock!
After that I figured I would check out the rest of Yankee Harbor and New Orleans place since I have hardly done that lately. Geez, there is almost nothing ride-like left in those sections. They took out East River Crawler, Cajun Cliffhanger, Power Dive and most of Shockwave. I did notice the Roaring Rapids ride was running (it was in the 40's today). They dyed the water red and called it Blood River, Hee! It was freezing out and people were actually on it, cool!
Went back to the American Eagle again, cuz I just HAD to experience that helix again. This was the first time I have ever ridden AE at night, cool lighting.
Headed to Giant Drop next, and for the first time in a long time, really felt my stomach drop on this!
Went on Raging Bull next where I met 2 really cool guys in line. We chatted and hung out the rest of the time there.
When the park closed, I forgot about the parking situation. I saw the mass heards of people heading to the exit and figured that it would take forever to get out of the lot. Luckily I discovered the exit on Washington Street, by accident, and got out in no time while all the other cars were lined up in chaos for the main exit. I am taking the Washington St. one from now on, never knew it existed.
