Matrix of Myths: Political Reality

In the "Matrix" sci-fi film, humanity is losing a war due to an illusion pulled over the eyes of humanity. One main character puts it: "You were born into a prison you cannot see, smell, or touch... a prison for your mind."

Freed from the illusion, one of the other characters asks "Why do my eyes hurt?" The first replies: "Because you've never used them before."

In real life, the situation is similar in a metaphorical sense: There is a "matrix" of myths, lies, and malformed conceptions which defines current American politics. THIS MATRIX IS PHILOSOPHY. The United States' politicians and intellectuals are the manipulators of this "matrix"; they know its pathways, its terminology, its methods. It is they who have shaped current events, leaving this country's founding ideals of individual rights, reason, and prosperity in the dust, and most of the rest of us in the dark.

To understand the ideas behind current events is to be armed against them, to be armed with the mind.

As novelist and philosopher Ayn Rand wrote, "Ideas are the most crucially practical power on earth."

Anyone who doubts this must only look at what the ideas of irrational mysticism and collectivism motivated terrorists to do on 9-11 -- with most of the intellectuals' silent blessing.

To understand the treason of America's current crop of intelligentia is to understand why one must wake up and advocate the right ideas to combat it.
