Cash crops in the rainforest
Kinds of Cash Crops
- Coffee- the biggest cash crop in the rainforest. The average piece of land (hectare*) will produce 120-250 lbs. of coffee annually. This huge amount of coffee will bring in only a measley $85-$200.
- Maize is the earliest form of corn and 1 hectare of corn will bring in about $150 annually
- Cacao the plant that is used to make chocolate. 1 hectare of cacao will bring in about $235
The people in the rainforest depend on these cash crops for their existence. These crops are the major ones that other countries will buy from them and they make the most money off of these crops.
*One hectare is equal to about two and one half acres of land.
